Eddie Vedder just now did a very similiar cover of this song. Pete Townsends version is so much better, but because Eddie Vedder is Eddie Vedder, his version is getting so much more airplay. It's like he stole PT's interpretation of the song.

Hey Dave, wake up. It's Pete. I'm here with Dave Gilmour and we can't figure out the tuning. If there's a better story I'd like to hear it.

It’s extremely rare for me to rally like a “remake” from another artist. But this FEELs like a totally different song. 2 big thumbs up. I can enjoy both songs for 2 different reasons and moods!

Pete is one of the best composers of all time and he did a great heartfelt rendition of this great English Beat song. Nobody strums better chords than Townshend. The album Beat Service is a great album, as well.

Pete was getting old when he released this in 1983 he just turned 37. Pete came out in 1980 and found when he was chatting up young men in King’s Road in London that no one knew who he was or had heard of The Who. He’d introduce himself and they’d say ‘Who the fuck are you?’

Give Pete his flowers for this one. He took a song he didn’t write and made it utterly his own. As great as the original is (and it’s one of my favorites), Pete beats it with an acoustic guitar, bass, and piano. Makes it feel it even more resolute and desperate at once. A lesson in personalization

Incredible how he played three instruments at once. They don't make them like that anymore.

Pete Townsend was so generous in his respect for other great songs. I love this cover. But I also heard him say that ABBA's SOS was the most perfect pop song, which of their less known songs is just devine.

Can you imagine, if in some crazy alternate universe, you wrote a song that Pete Townshend wanted to cover? That would be like Thomas Edison asking your opinion on how to invent the lightbulb.

I read a story that Pete Townsend called Dave Wakeling on the phone for details on his guitar part. Wakeling hung up on him thinking it was a prank call. Leter Pete was successful phoning Dave. Pete's cover is stunning.

Dave relayed this story in an intimate studio session I was fortunate enough to attend. Pete and Eric Clapton were sitting around trying to figure out the chord. Called Dave for solution. And then this cover! Townsend’s only I believe.
