And remember you're going to need $190,000 to pay for the car plus maintenance each year plus a trailer plus a motorhome cuz nobody does this in their pickup truck yeah it's a rich man's sport and it takes a lot of time and a lot of money so make sure your wife and your children and your girlfriend and anyone you hang out with is going to be okay with that remember sand duning life is not like regular life

I have a 5.3 LS1 truck engine in my 2002 Avalanche. It has the D580 coils OEM stock. These coils still run but the laminated cores of coils are very rusted because they are exposed instead of being totally encased in plastic like other coils. So I wanted to replace them with an upgrade. My engine has a Whipple supercharger system, ported heads, and a cam with .05" more lift than stock but otherwise mild duration/overlap and stock idle. SO, I want the ignition to be enhanced over stock if possible. MSD makes a "Pro Power" LS coil with a built in capacitive discharge feature. Their PN 828683 (set of 8) fits the stock harness plugs of my engine, but I could see from the pictures that they will not fit the stock mounting bracket because the mounting ears are 90* from where the OEM mounting ears are located. The aftermarket mounting brackets I was able to find don't look like they are going to be a direct fit either. I had to talk to MSD tech people for some time to get clear answers. They assured me that the 828683 coils were electrically compatible with my application, and that information indeed did turn out to be correct. But they could not give me an answer as to what mounting brackets will fit the coil. All the aftermarket bracket listings I could find just give you a picture to look at, with no definitive listing of what coils will fit the bracket. They just expect you to figure it out by looking at pictures, then buy the thing and probably realize it won't work without modification. I want brackets that will mount the coils with the spark wire terminal snout pointing straight down directly over each spark plug ... is that too much to ask? All of the aftermarket brackets looked like they are basically universal and will mount the coils on a 45* angle, and I do not want this. So I decided to modify my OEM brackets to fit the MSD coils. This required some cutting and welding. The square opening for the body of the coil had to be enlarged, and I welded on threaded studs to match the coil mounting holes. The section of the bracket that secures the large harness feeding the engine on the left side had to be cut off, re-positioned, and extended about an inch higher. So as it turned out the coils are mounted in the position where I want them, and as a bonus the spark wire snouts extend a little lower, which makes the spark wires fit perfectly. That was another problem, the spark wires that MSD and every other mfr tells you are correct for your very common truck engine application do not fit well because they are a half inch too short. MSD tells you to bend the terminals to make them reach. I already did this and the damned wires just barely reach and are taught enough to play a tune on them. They just flatly REFUSE to give you a lousy half inch more of wire to work with. Then they also refuse to make a bracket that will correctly fit and mount the coils they sell to fit your very common truck engine. However, they do sell universal brackets that will mount them on an angle and may require longer wires. Another thing they don't tell you until after you buy the coils is there's a possibility of a low current fault due to the current demand of the capacitive discharge feature. They do make and sell a harness adapter that uses a relay to create a direct B+ circuit to your OEM harness that will solve this issue. They explain this in the instruction sheet with the coils. So I ordered that too, an additional order and more waiting time. There is no mention of any recommendation for this harness adapter on the MSD website listing for the coils, and no mention of it from their tech people. I had to modify it because the wiring is configured to put the relay somewhere on the engine, and I wanted the relay inside the under hood fuse box. So anyway the coils seem to be running well on my engine now, although I haven't driven the truck just yet because it needs more work.

Thanks for the video, I have a LS at work that the ignition timing was jumping around. After spending some time trying to find the problem found the reluctor wheel can move on the crank. In my country its not a common motor. Its a Chev Lumina 6.0 . Do You know if one can maybe tap threads and use machine screws and fasten it to the crank. If we have to replace it we will have to import a new wheel and that takes ages. The agents dont carry stock for LS anymore in the country. Thanks again. A BIG help.

Why do I always see this whacko shit for pulling liners on small diesels when all you really have to do is size a piece of hard wood and place it between the lower liner and a crank web and turn the crank shaft to press them out? Forgive me for being THAT way but this is Navy Engineman A-School stuff and I have never had any issues with any small diesel doing it that way. The larger diesels I have worked had jacking bolt facilitation on the top of the liner.
