As a 3rd generation mechanic, it will depend on the cause of the Piston slap. A loose piston pin or wrist pin or an incorrect piston/rod clearance will not be fixed by oil. Sounds like the skirt may be slightly undersize compared to the bore. That would explain as it warms up it goes away. The piston expands faster than the bore. Thicker oil in that case would minimize the sound at start up. If using 5w-30 try 10w-30.
@DrivingIntelligence20 сағат бұрын
The spec from Ford calls for 5W20 and I've been using 5W30. I think I'll try the 10W30 as you recommend.

I'm sorry but I need to chime in . I've been doing wheel alignment for 40+ years. And often a steering gear adjustment was needed on most trucks with age and mileage on them. On most manual steering gear box's a major adjustment could be performed ( " sector shaft " and worm adjustment " ) On power steering pretty much a "minor gear adjustment " could be performed , and only just enough to get the slop out of the steering gear ., to get the adjustment just right the first time was luck but usually took a couple of attempts to find the sweet spot. This sector shaft adjustment will not have an effect on the spool valve in the steering gear.. Just a note if the steering gearbox is adjustment is good and wheel alignment and tires are good but the vehicle still has a pull to the left or right ! It is very likely the spool valve in the steering gearbox has a biased valve.( worn out) . And how to check for that issue is to drive the vehicle straight into a bay or flat driveway and turn off the vehicle for 30 seconds and with hands off the steering wheel start the engine while "watching the steering wheel" if its twitching to the left or right ", that's a steering gear biased and no good. As that is and actual vehicle steering pull if all else measures good. Also lack of returnability can be attributed to a faulty spool valve in the steering gearbox ", if all else checks out good including ball joints. On a last note if an adjustment is made on the steering gear and its to tight back off sector shaft 1/8 at a time .

@flimflam6547 are you attaching the transmission support to the transmission before your installing it on the frame? You should first raise the transmission, then install the subframe, and then lower the transmission onto the frame.

People in the comments got me nervous about using this product in my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid. Its got 220k miles on it and I kept going 10-12k miles between oil changes
@DrivingIntelligence5 күн бұрын
I might be a little nervous as well. I've learned over the years that even stretching to 7,500 miles between oil changes is too much. Especially if you only do short trips around the city. Engine does not have enough time to get up to full operating temperature. How's your vehicle running? Oil consumption?
@PhaseSkater5 күн бұрын
@@DrivingIntelligence keep in mind it’s a hybrid. So not all of those miles were driven on gas. A quarter of them were in electric mode. And most of those miles are highway. I do live in the city and do a lot of stop and go traffic with the hybrid but I didn’t do 200k city miles. Most miles are from road trips like driving from Seattle to Florida ( 150 bucks in Gas total for that trip).

Why on earth would you expect to see a change in "piston slap" as its clearly a bore clearance issue, do you expect the oil to leave some sort of clearance reducing coatong on skirts ???

What I like to do is see if a question has been asked and answered before I post a question, like you. Your comment has been posted and answered. Next time do a simple google search, in this case “possible causes of piston slap” and maybe you’ll get your answer instead of being a repetitive commenter. Sheesh.
