Hello Chis. I would be very interested to know what surface you are painting on. Is is paper? If so what type of paper is it? I'm about to start painting again after a 40 year break and I'm pretty sure the cartridge paper I used as a teenager isn't the best thing to paint on. I'd love to know what you use. Anyhow, thanks for the videos, they're great fun to watch.

As a teen in the 70s and 80s I was mesmerised by this guy's sci-fi art and his ability to transport you to far away, bizarre and imaginative alien worlds through concept art. Amazing talent and pure genius imagination!

Dear Chris. I am the French fan (since my childhood) who ordered you the Snow-cat re-interpretation painting, two years ago, through this Guernesey art gallery. I just wanted to tell you that this is a pure jewel of Art that I still cherish everyday🙏

The whiskey in the airbrush anecdote! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Really enjoying watching these. Thank you so much for recording them. Video's like these need to be made of important artists at work, discussing the in's and out's and telling fun anecdotes. There where a couple missing from this play list. Did they get deleted by accident?

Your art appeared on the cover of SciFi books that shaped my younger years. Eternal thanks to you for sparking my imagination. I took art lessons and did loads of pencil drawings. I never applied color and moved on to playing music, but thanks again for the inspiration you gave me. I also loved your concept work for Alien.

Is there a book or catalog for this exhibition that I could buy? I'm on the west coast of Canada and as a result I'm unable to see it in person.

Guys like Chris Foss are what is missing in modern sci-fi. There are no more memorable spaceship designs or visual worldbuilding. It's OK to focus on characters and acting, but science fiction by virtue of its visuals gives you an extra something that you can't get in any other genre. And those visuals can be just as important. Been a fan of Chris Foss and his contemporaries since the Terran Trade Authority.

Wonderful to see Chris Foss so recognised. I have long admired his work from the sci-fi covers of 'Doc' EE Smith's Lensman novels and recently bought Chris' album 'Hardware'. Hugely exciting and imaginative. The show looks to be worth the trip to Guernsey!

Great info in these speeches. And very nice to hear he is still active and has this great exhibition. This video is a historical document of the master himself. I bought one of his art books some weeks ago and it is still in shrink wrap because I want to save this for a special moment. Thanks for your works Chris Foss!

The old man's still got it! Real life "working" machines, particularly heavy plants and specialised vehicles, have that aesthetic where function absolutely dictates form. Foss imparts that aesthetic on space ships, stations, and other cosmic installations. The twist is that we, the 21st century onlookers, often have no idea what function might be served by all the bizarre bits and pieces of a Fossian ship --- but the "industrial ugliness" of the bristling antennae, the plating, the warning stripes and checkers, it all tells us that the ship is there to kick ass and take names.

I happen to own a book called 'The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction' and this illustration is given a full page. I was always captivated the ship's comical, almost drunk and lurching appearance; The juxtapositon of high technology with asymmetric and lumbering engines. Fascinating to hear the illustrator's thoughts on his process. Many thanks for posting the vid 😁

You are a HUGE influence and inspiration to my ship designs over the years. I have quite a few fave designers, but its your "Color Schemes" that stand above the rest. I wish more "Films" would design ships that had more than grey and white colors (especially bigger ships). Been a fan since ALIEN . . . thank you for being a mentor from afar :).
