How crazy that they are much lighter colored than ones elsewhere. Im guessing that must be to help them blend in with the ice. Either that or its just from less sun exposure. I wonder if these pods migrate or do they stay in this area?

# Dale was it safe to camp there?
@DaleJohnsonphotoАй бұрын
Depends on what you call safe. I was there several years ago before the current conflict with the warring tribes in that region. Still, I was with a paid guide, we picked up two armed guys for security with AK-47 rifles who were with us at all times. Two weeks after we were there a tourist got lost on the hike up the volcano at night and was shot, along with one of his guides who if I remember correctly was shot and killed. Camping on the edge of the caldera of Erta Ale was great, but 10 months earlier the lava in the permanent lava lake overflowed causing hot lava to spill out and flowing down the sides, causing the tourist there to run for their lives, though I don’t believe anyone was killed. Probably the most dangerous trips I’ve taken.

First of all, thank you for sharing your fascinating experience with us. Second, why do you add the "Jaws" music, even in a very reduced form? This movie has done enough damage to sea creatures. You were completely safe on your rafts.

The main reason people are scared of sharks. That movie caused an insane amount of misinformation to be spread like wildfire and everyone acted like it was true. You're more likely to die by a coconut falling on your head.

@@AKbaby89 More people are around coconuts than sharks
@AKbaby896 ай бұрын
@AfroWizardADV that's not necessarily true, people don't know they're around sharks the majority of the time. Sharks are not the monsters jaws made them out to be. Less than a dozen people die every year from shark bites. 99.99% of which were directly caused by the humans actions, then people blame the shark. It's ridiculous and ignorant.

Why was that person in yellow lying in the middle and holding a camera up instead of sitting up and Looking? Some people should stay at home watching Disney.
@DaleJohnsonphoto Жыл бұрын
That person was terrified that the orcas were going to flip our boat. We had watched a documentary the night before that showed how the southern killer whales work together to go after seals by flipping or swamping the ice they are sitting on. I think that was on everyone's minds as the orcas checked us out.

Funny place for a plane. It must have gone down. Hard to imagine just what would have gone through the minds of those on board. Pilot must have done a great job to land as the plane is still in tack.

Wow! Where do you start your flight to get this? Beautiful, will be back in Seattle soon and have been waiting to try this view of the needle
@DaleJohnsonphoto2 жыл бұрын
For this I launched from a street near Kerry Park on Queen Ann. It puts you about 200 feet up the will so you don’t need to fly too high to match the Space Needle height. It also gives you a good vantage point to shoot pics from your still camera of the needle and Mount Rainier.

@DaleJohnsonphoto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tania! The lights moved much faster than I was expecting and so the time lapse does make them go quite fast. I did slow it down a bit, but much more and it gets a bit choppy. The best way would be to shoot video and not a time lapse. This was my first time seeing the Northern Lights so if I get the chance again, I will try a video.

The video was taken on my Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera. There wasn’t really any natural sounds so I added the sound from the sound effect options in Adobe Premier Rush. I shot this as a standard movie and then increased the speed by 300% so you could easily see the movement of the mist on the lake and the clouds near the mountain.

For current conditions at the needle, I check spaceneedle.roundshot.com This webcam will let you know if the top of the space needle is above the fog or not. Just be careful flying in foggy conditions as there's not a lot of room for error.
