Crazy how much change in the drill production in the last 20 years. We never did the dancing running around/posing or integration of the color guard. Lots more music and playing for us as tubas/contraG. Playing both in my time as a tuba player both college and DCI I felt the G bugles took more lung and diaphragm to really sound off. It was a huge disadvantage in my opinion. I seemed much more winded after DCI than in college marching band. When I got home from tour and started up college it seemed much easier to play. Not glorifying GG and basing on BB just differentiating. Lots of progression is what I’m saying, when you watch what the kids are doing in 25 years from now you will feel old and dated like I do lol. We were so insanely advanced compared to the way they did things in the 70s/80s even. 3 valve horns drills music uniforms drum line equipment and technique advancements everything.. solid show dude! We always dreamed of having POV cams (we only had shoulder mounted cameras like in back to the future) cool to see what we do/did from this perspective and how much work it is to hustle a big horn like that! Bravo brother 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

How heavy are the system blue tubas?
@centrexisaac4 жыл бұрын
32-ish pounds. Once the old Jupiters are completely phased out, they’ll be the heaviest in the activity. They’re still not unbearable tho

@@centrexisaac I hate jupiter’s, maybe it’s because i’m rookie to marching tuba, 16 years old, and my arms are noodles, but in my opinion yamahas are supeiror

Was wondering if anyone on here had suggestions for switching from sousaphone to contra, my school's too broke to afford contras

hella late on this, but broom, no, it's not a good representation of much, just that the back of it is heavier than the front. My techs told us to get used to it, hold a 20 lb bag of rice/flour/random stuff about 2 feet in front of your chest, with your elbows pointed at a diagonal at the floor to get used to the weight. It helps.

@@siiilver8739 lots of push ups lots more push ups upper body strengthening and sprinkle some push-ups on top. Oh and run. Then keep running drink water. Then? Do it again.

@@mattdugan2000 lol, yes. That too. Pushups for days. This reminds me of a kinda funny story, in retrospect. During a practice the tubas were doing pretty bad and our tech decided that for everytime that we get reset because of a tuba mistake, 5 pushups would be given to all the tubas. We. Ended. That. Practice. Owing. 60. Pushups. So, what did our merciful tech do, she said, you don't need to do them right now, we can do them next practice. As the next practice rolls around, we tubas were there before practice, as always, and our tech walks up. It was time for pushups. All 60. Before practice. Mind you, 4 out of 5 of us were rookies that season and as such, were not at all ready for 60 pushups at once. We got to 60 with a heaping 2 minutes before our stretching block. That practice was rough lol, but useful, we learned how much we needed to grow as a section.
