It's fascinating that the prevailing view of computers, right up to the commercialization of the Internet, was of a kind of vast centralized brain and data repository that could be queried for authoritative information. This is obviously still a work in progress, but so far the reality has turned out very differently. We have instead a mesh of fragmentary information, often contradictory, rarely authoritative, requiring quite careful evaluation. It's fantastic! It's just like going to the library. No text in the library can be automatically taken as authoritative. Perhaps it is, but that always has to be determined by the researcher. Come to think of it, there's something a bit creepy about proposing a central authority for knowledge. Writers like Arthur C Clarke didn't quite get to the point of detecting that creepiness. It seems they were willing to give it a utopian free pass. But, pragmatically, we now know a little better. Central authority risks centralized authoritarianism. What we currently have as global knowledge - and we heavily rely on it too; this is no hypothetical - is very much more messy. And yet, like the routing architecture of the Internet itself, there is no single point of failure. It's not authoritarian. It's a community with many voices, some of them quite mistaken. As long as we know that, we can work with it.

Me watching this on an RTX 3080 laptop at my small desk..........AMAZED How the computer has got smaller and more powerful. Like my PC is literally 10^200 times more powerful than what they even envisioned back at that time.. Even my mobile phone is 10^30 powerful than any computer that time... And there are waay better laps than mine too... So the difference is soooooooooooooo huge..

And the Maui wildfire, which the Biden admiration and the governor and local politicans didn't do much for them. Because I believer the elite who "donated" to Biden's campaign and democrats are allowed to make a low offer of the owners of the burned houses to sell to high bidders the rich elites. And make a profit

The first problem for an Australian citizen is you can only stay in Italy for 90 days, if you stay longer you would require a Visa ie; Student etc. There is a bi-lateral agreement between Italy and Australia signed in 1951 which technically allows you to stay for 90 days but just in Italy but not the Schengen states. Initially I enquired with the Aussie embassy in Rome and they agreed that I could therefore stay combining both making it 180 days, sounded good, but later found out Italy won't honour the 1951 paperwork, so 90 days only. The second issue is if you don't speak Italian I would suggest you may find the entire process, the purchase, finding trades etc very difficult. Also, if you buy a house get a report done from an engineer as it may not be permitted to reside in the house due to structural reasons. I have done all of this in another region of Italy regarding house purchase and its complicated, very complicated. There are reaasons while these regions are empty, you must do your research, are their shops, medical centres or hospital, mechanic for your car etc. Good luck everyone.
