I'm looking at my mom's ornaments now and learning I have some really old ones. I have the ornaments that my mom's mom bought when mom was born and mom was 87 when she passed. Mom was always careful to keep them in the original boxes and so they are in great condition. Now I know I have some really really old ornaments so thank you for this information.

We had one in 1960 it was the first artificial Christmas tree my parents ever had. My father proclaimed it was to beautiful to put ornaments on it as they would detract from it’s beauty. But it had a rotating stand and color wheel. Oh how wish I had that tree now it was over 6 foot tall.

Hi, thank you for your videos, I found you because I just bought your book (Vintage American Made ornaments) in the UK, from Amazon. It's very useful and informative but I wish I could find out more about the kind of ornaments we get here like who made the Victorian ones - would they have been made in Germany/Europe? I'm thinking perhaps most of ours are from Europe as it's closer than America! I'd really like to be able to put an age to some of mine. I'm not sure if I have many Shiny Brites, but I would love to get hold of a boxful for my ever growing collection! Maybe one day!

Thanks for watching in the UK. There was a ribbon machine for blowing glass bulbs in the UK. You can see it in action here kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3WUc3qrh9eeb68 A great resource for German/European Christmas ornaments is the back issues of the Glow magazine. They are accessible for members of the goldenglow.org. On my website there is document posted about West German Shiny Brite ornaments. You can also email me questions at [email protected] Merry Christmas

Our tradition was always to place the larger balls lower on the tree, and the smaller ones higher up. This was partly aesthetic. It was partially practical, as the lower branches tended to be more stout, and better able to take the weight.

@jodypritzl8250 I've started taking pictures of those older balls as you suggested. Turns out I have 3 misshapen orb balls and 2 long ones that look like inverted tree toppers. The problem is getting pix of the tops of the hangers. They are pretty corroded, but I'm pretty sure they read "MADE IN THE USofA." If I recall correctly from another of your videos, this makes them '38 or '39. This jibes, as my parents set up household in '44. He never got inducted. He worked for the railroad. I'll get the pix finished soon after XMas.

Can you find these ornaments for sale anywhere today and how would you know if they ate reproduction s
@jodypritzl825023 күн бұрын
There are more reproductions of stencils versus transparents. The eighty year old bulbs would have a dull or somewhat tarnished cap that said Made in US of A. If it has a bright shiny cap then there is a chance it is not an original Corning blown bulb. Merry Christmas.

I have 4 mystery balls that I can't make sense of. Two are spherical unsilvered with metal caps, one blue, one red. I don't know if they are transparent or opaque. I don't know how to tell. Two others appear to have been made by the same manufacturer, but are a sphere that tapers at the bottom into a smaller sphere which tapers into a spear. The MYSTERY is that they are misshapen. The family story was they were bought during "the war" and were produced domestically by inexperienced glass blowers. Any thoughts?

Thank you so very much! These ornaments are beautiful and the indents are gorgeous! I inherited my parent’s ornaments, and my brother told me they were purchased in a 5 & 10 cents store in Philadelphia, PA. @@jodypritzl8250 Hi, thank you for answering. They must have dipped them in a thinned out enamel paint. I wish I could figure it out. I have some vintage stained glass paint and tried it on a few. I works well for small touch ups but the viscosity is wrong for big areas.

I just stumbled upon your video on Coby and had to listen. For the most part, you got it right. I worked for Coby for many years as did my whole family. Coby purchased bulk glass from GE and corning, depending on seasonality and cost. You did not mention their tree top bulbs, which they did in house from glass tubes. Charlie Morton was the real genius behind the equipment. The Missouri operation was going on while Coby was still in Woonsocket. The Woonsocket location stayed open until 1983 when bankruptcy forced for sale to Rausch industries in gastonia North Carolina. They only remained in business a short time. Environmental and safety regulations along with overseas manufacturing made manufacturing competitively in the United States impossible.

thanks again, I'm sure I've got a cap that is stamped wrong, e.g., the cap lettering isn't complete, that last ?
