Hi, beautiful footage! I just got this camera myself and had a few questions. Do you remember if you see anything through the viewfinder other than a green dot? Is there a focus circle? Also do you have to worry about the light meter ? And do you have any tips for focusing? Should I keep it on infinity or should I just zoom in, focus, and then zoom out to whatever distance I want? Thanks!

Thanks, yeah its a great camera, fun to use. I don't remember the viewfinder or how the focus worked, but the light meter is always worth using as a reference. If you're shooting with 50D (probably most common) basically just shoot in full daylight. It's only when you're unsure there's enough light you'll need to refer to the light meter. There is an auto and manual setting, I kept it on auto but found it had slipped onto manual a few times. Its best to focus as you described, with zooming first. The nature of how small 8mm film is its definitely best to be in focus as much as possible

Do you mind explaining how you refer to the light meter? I just don’t know exactly where to look on my camera to find that info! Thanks again

And are there any extra batteries I’d have to insert or get the light meter working? Or is it just powered by the 4 AAs in the handle. Cheers! And thanks for all the help!

I just got this camera and there’s a receding red triangle. Is that the light meter? It doesn’t show up while in auto, only in manual. About to get my first roll in, trying to do all I can to make sure I test it properly! Any tips?
@grantous67 Жыл бұрын
I can't remember about the red triangle, also can't find either of these cameras to check, I must have sold them. They're pretty user friendly tho, so just try it in auto. Super 8 filming tips are: 1. make sure there's plenty of light (summer is always best) 2. people make the best subjects 3. if you do any panning make sure it's slow 4. try to nail focus as best you can

Hey Grant - I just found one of these cameras in a charity shop. Are they quite easy to use? I've never used one before. Love this footage you got :)

Great find. Just about all super 8 cameras are easy to use, most have auto exposure so all you have to do is focus and pull the trigger

Excellent filming. There are a couple of exciting shots. Where the road and mountains are ahead and the dynamics of movement. The second frame is a donut stand. He looks like he's from the time when Super 8 was massively popular. By the way, the big mountain in the middle looks more like a volcano.

Awesome video! Just picked up a Sankyo LXL 250 and it says to use 25 ASA or 40 ASA but can’t seem to find that anywhere. What do you think?

@@grantous67 thanks! I shot a couple rolls and everything seemed to work with the green light flickering while filming. On the third roll however, I noticed the green light isn’t flickering and the batteries are dying quick. Does your light flicker in the eye piece while filming? And do your batteries die quick? Thanks!
@grantous672 жыл бұрын
@@orangedoorsbooking1361 yeah I've always had that green light flickering when filming - are you turning the camera off when not in use ? That's the only reason I can think for the batteries to die quicker. I seem to recall a note about batteries lasting around four super 8 cartridges

That camera has auto and manual exposure - maybe it was on manual and set very high ? Did you shoot outdoors during the day ?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I'm in New Zealand and send my film to a guy in Australia for developing (he's the best). But if you're in the USA I suspect there will be a few labs you can mail the exposed film to. Most of them will be able to cover developing and scans. Give it a try !

@@grantous67 Yep that's the guy I was recommended, good to see he does stellar work! I have a Sankyo CM400 I was gifted and just popped my first ever roll of 50D in there, hoping to film the first few days of my daughters life on it, so pretty excited!!! Is there a way to know how much film you have left or do you just need to try and remember?
@grantous674 жыл бұрын
@@wildheartsphotography8081 all the super 8 cameras I've seen so far have a film counter somewhere. For the sankyo models its usually on the left side (if the camera is facing forward), looks like the CM400 its above the eyepiece. Should count up from 0 to 50 feet. Make sure you film outdoors ! (or under some serious indoor lights)

Auto was the intention, but sometimes I found the setting had moved to manual which might explain some of the underexposed images
