Hello, my name is Max, I'm from Brazil. I'm doing a plasma cutting CNC. Watching your videos, I changed my mind and I'm going to do it with a laser. I have some questions. I want to do it to cut sheet metal and pipes. Which controller should I use and how many motors? If you can help me, I'll be very grateful. I'm a fitness equipment manufacturer.

I’ve never built a combo machine, just contact SkyFire, they can tell you what controller options you have and motor info…they’re link is in the description

@johnboon53304 күн бұрын
Great tutorial, Travis! Is it necessary to use gearboxes on the servos? The gearboxes add backslash to the motion unless they are the zero backslash type which are more expensive. Does the software incorporate backslash compensation?
@diyfiberlaser2 күн бұрын
They may not be necessary, yes the software has backlash compensation

would it make sense to tune the steppers with a tube in the chuck for length and rotation axes? or is the general advice to tune without it? I guess it'd be similar to tuning the spindle on a lathe
@diyfiberlaser6 күн бұрын
That is a good point! I think in my case, I will only be cutting short and fairly lightweight tube, so it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference, but if I were going to be cutting longer, heavier tube, I would definitely retune it with the stock in place.

If you end up wanting the monitor up higher Wali does make a taller post assembly. Their mounts are also super versatile; in addition to using them to hold monitors I've got them setup to hold a pair of GVM LED panels and a tripod head for my camera.

I'm just checking. Did you put the two 24v supplies together. It's ok to split the block into two parts. But please don't run them together. On larger tools that have multiple 24v supplies they run a block of one supply and then another right next to it. So it would look like 24 positive and negative from supply one and then all the positive and negative for supply two. That separation will help you in the future if you need to find a problem. By having them both supply the same block you don't know how many amps are being used from them.
@diyfiberlaser11 күн бұрын
No, only one 24V power supply goes to the terminal block.

What was your shipping cost of all laser components from skyfire?
@diyfiberlaser12 күн бұрын
I don't have a good answer because all of my laser components weren't from SkyFire...the laser source was from a previous vendor.
@johnboon533012 күн бұрын
@diyfiberlaser They quoted me $4,200 for the shipping cost alone via airplane for: the Raycus laser source, Raytools cutting head plus controller and the water chiller. No way I'm paying that much for shipping! The cost of those components is about $7,000
@viadom758712 күн бұрын
@@johnboon5330 Raycus brand is banned recently. Apparently you can not import to US. For that reason you're paying that much high cost I guess.

I had a cnc router that would crop the waste. Meaning that it would cut up the small unusable part of the sheet so that I was left with a large piece. This was great in that I could add it to my next job as a smaller sheet size. I know that with this set up you can use almost every inch of a sheet. I just know that it's simpler to store usable parts and not a lot of flimsy ones.
@thomasswearingen697112 күн бұрын
One thing that I have noticed is that you are not using grommets for wires passing through steal. You can use some of the 6mm hose and cut it to make a cheap one. Just make a cut down the length and then test it and trim it to length. Or use silicone to hold the wires away from the sharp edges.
@thomasswearingen697112 күн бұрын
One way that you could fix your grounds is to add an other ground block and run from that. I have seen this done in a couple of high end cnc router machines.
@Pano18112 күн бұрын
Do you have a link for the 14 tooth pulley? or know the tooth pitch and size?
@thomasswearingen697113 күн бұрын
I know that cnc router water cooled spendles sometimes plug. You might need to install a wheel on the hot side so that you could see if the system is flowing.
@thomasswearingen697113 күн бұрын
You protected the power supplies. I didn't see anything for the drivers or the controller. You can put a fuse on the positive side to take care of that and if you wanted to you could wire the breaker into the estop switch so that it turns off in the event of overload. Sorry I just installed a weeky cnc router for a friend and had to replace some of the safety stops. That machine has 20. Half had shorts in the contacts so I had to replace them so I could power on the controller. The good thing is that he forgot to touch off a bit and the z axis and the spindle tripped when it tried to push through the spoil board. That turned everything off and had to be reset and rehomed and everything was fine. I worry about drivers on every diy cnc because they protect the power supply and then don't fuse the drivers or controler. Just know that this comes from the fact that one driver will probably not overload the power supply so you have the potential for destroying a component. Also try to only run low voltage with low voltage and high with high. Ac and dc don't always play nice and this can lead to lost steps and other problems later on down the road.
@thomasswearingen697113 күн бұрын
One thing to remember is that push button switches go bad. I know that 22mm switches are bigger than the ones you are using. The benefits of using a readily available size switch is that if it goes out you can source one locally. The other plus is that if you get tired of replacing the cheaper ones you can get name brand switches in the future. I know that I use Allen Bradley for this. I found that the contacts of the switch are the same price as the cheapest I can find. I also found that the switch last ten times as long. The only negative that I have found is that they can coast ten times that of the cheaper ones. On the up side they only have two contact blocks available. So it's not hard to have a spare in the bottom of the electrical box. My industry is wood so dust would kill the cheap ones about once a year.
