Yes, I use 800 degrees F to strip varnish. Doesn't seem to burn it as much as higher temps do, so it can come off in sheets instead of just disintegrating. This gun does have a digital readout

Good video, the other modification you might have is the electric Facet Fuel Pump. not sure if yours was originally mechanical. Nice set up! Also, you either have leakage of antifreeze around cap and down front of engine (dried pink antifreeze) or you never cleaned it up from the change out last year.
@ohlson388 ай бұрын
Yes there are a few modifications to the motor. Notably the Balmar alternator and balmar AltMount pulley kit. Aftermarket PYI engine mounts, PYI shaft seal, The engine has a stock factory mechanical lift pump. the previous owner installed the electric Facet pump. the previous owner also installed new sending units for the temp and oil pressure to show the level, instead of just an idiot light. There are VDO gauges in the cockpit. I strongly recommend the electric pump. It adds a filter, helps bleed the system, and offers reliability if the engine sucks air. So huge safety feature. The electric pumps are highly debated. I like it! Yes there is several places there is dried antifreeze from previous services, changing the fresh water pump, changed the hoses out, thermostat, etc. I should clean it. Plus taking the cap off to check the antifreeze level EVERY time I start the motor, along with checking the oil level, at EVERY start up (if I remember, that is!) Maybe I will make a video on the modifications to the motor at some point. Still runs great for a 2001 model year motor!

for what it's worth, you can adjust your clutch handle so it does not hit the pedestal guard. This is noted on page 7 of Edson's Pedestal Mounted Engine Control Installation Instructions (EB-99-396). edsonmarine.com/content/EB396EngineControlInstr.pdf

I was disappointed that you did not show how you got the bolt from the bracket that holds the cables through the hole below the wheel. That appears to be challenging.
@ohlson38 Жыл бұрын
the white plastic bracket the holds the cables? It was actually quite simple. I did not realize that was edited out. If I did capture it, I will post it. Once the cables are in the bracket, just slide them down. when the bracket/threads of the bolt are near the hole, just wiggle it til it comes through the hole. That was the easiest part of the job! If/when you do this job, you will see what I mean. I thought that would be difficult too. When the cables were slid down, it literally just popped through the hole.
@ohlson38 Жыл бұрын
I did find the raw footage. I will upload it. The cables are so stiff, you can literally make that plastic mount dance anyway you want and locate it into the hole quite easily.

We’re about to take ownership of an Ohlson 38 yawl with wood cabinsides like your boat. I’m interested in seeing your repair here. Our current cheoy lee has MANY cracks in the teak cabinsides. I cut them open, cleaned as best as I could with acetone and epoxied with some success. Some cracks have lost their bond. I’ve been told GFLEX is the epoxy to use on teak. Not sure about mahogany.
@ohlson38 Жыл бұрын
Going to try a penetrating epoxy on this crack. Will try and pry it open as much as possible and inject some epoxy into the crack, clamp and hope for the best! Teak repairs need to remove as much oil as possible to get penetration as possible. Keep wiping with acetone over and over to clean as much as possible. With teak, I always try a mechanical bond if possible (screws, dowels, biscuits-my favorite) along with wood glue or epoxy, depending on the project.
@dsmoll91 Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have a feeling my acetone clean has been subpar. It’s pretty tough to get acetone into some of the small cracks. Pretty necessary to fill these though. Ours are also full width and leak water when it rains.

South of Boston (Mattapoisett MA) so it is COLD here in the winter. Yea, it is a treat having heated storage.
