I raised pigeons back in 1980’s. I used to buy a 100 burlap bag of pigeon food that cost about $12. It consisted of barley, wheat, sorghum, millet, flaxseed and rice. I added oyster shells and grit. Plus I had a salt lick brick for them. I occasionally added Cod Liver Oil to the grain. I had a book on how to raise racing homing pigeons so I did the best I could for them. I fed them once a day in an amount that there no left overs in 10 minutes. And I let them fly once a day. Took them on 190 mile trips occasionally and I never had a sick pigeon.

Feeding is only a guide. Some of us train from 50 miles a day and this won't work.

Does anyone know about The Wichita Pigeon Club N Wichita Kansas USA or know of or mayB remember a man , JD Botkin? Probably anyone that knew of JD has passed away by now. I used 2 go with him 2 figure the race at the clubhouse & knew many "4 the birds" children back then...ummm, yeah, cuz I am almost 70 years old now.

Okay UR home! now trap N. Pete de Weir was my Papa's best friend from Belgium. He always brought me wooden shoes every time he came 2 visit my dad. They were all "4 the birds" as Mama always quipped on these international visitations. He brought prize birds 2 B prisoner birds exclusively 4 breedN & Papa had some fast birds too. Gorgeous birds, both cocks & hens. But newly hatched pigeons R really pretty homely & weak. I wuz holdN babies N my tiny 4 year old palms with Papa's instruction & supervision.

I've kept pigeons for over 50 years. These birds should have been out well before now. They look like they could fly hour already. If they get scared up you'll lose them.

Hi all. Just back from a cruise to Norway from Southampton Uk and after leaving Copenhagen on MSC Virtuosa I noticed a racing pigeon walking around the deck and when we docked again in Zeebrugge the pigeon was still on board. He / She looked really healthy. I managed to get a ring Id by taking photos and it was BE 22 ...111637. Not sure if the pigeon was still with us when we arrived back in the Uk on the 22/06/24 though.
