So there was this snake queen BBEG that was temporarily allied with us whom had apparently been the cause of the destruction of my character's race (my character was an ancient warforged created by dwarves for mining purposes, made them look like a Big Daddy from Bioshock) including myself, being resurrected in the far future. We allied because there was a piece of an eldritch god trying to break into the world and destroy everything. So we destroyed that piece, which started turning into a black hole and angered our BBEG ally who'd turned on us. So here I was, having just learned Force Cage at the end of the last session. Here was the killer of my race, standing a little too close to a black hole about to form.

Used as a defensive measure? Like a group of people at their last stand with no healing measure and the one with the spell uses it on them. Providing an opportunity to rest while becoming a distraction for their enemies. Possibly losing their life unless the group rolls high enough to prevent it or a setup for a different campaigns path.

Yeah if you're using it on a rogue or a monk or a barbarian or anything like that then great spell however using it on someone that cast spells is well stupid unless you want to continuously recast it over and over and over again and are perfectly fine with the pseudo murder that ensues whenever your similac ends up without spells.

One of the cooler uses I've seen for Simulacrum that gets over looked?When the Wizard in our party made a double, and basically set it to work making scrolls, doing research, and helping inscribe into their spell book. It was WILDLY beneficial, especially in a campaign that has a good amount of downtime built in.

It feels like some of the classes were rushed and while they may be more balanced they are also more clunky and less fun. Ranger is tied to hunters mark and paladin has to use a bonus action and cast a spell to use a core feature. This seems almost deliberate to sell us a new book with new character class options to fix the base classes

I did that cypher thing where you shift every letter one forward (i.e. a becomes b so race become sbdf) and somehow my players arrived to stuffed bums. How even... They did figure it out, eventually, mostly on their own. I think my players have been generally good about puzzles, only needed a few hints to ever figure something out.

Um... I have adhd and i got to be honest as the gm i have seen alot of the people on their phone would have much more fun if they stopped. Obviously not everyone but most Spectrum people check out the second they get a phone and cant join in because A. They get distracted and forget what the plan was leading to rambling or B. The phone takes them out of the social space and they feel cringe which leading to shyness. I allways feel these videos push a "just let them" thing which is wrong TALK with them and find what is best for the table.

To be honest, if i have a player with a good singing voice or just a soothing voice, i will give them an auto succeed without rolling or even after a failed roll if they actually sing for me.

Hahaha...this is real. XD I like to encourage my players to come up with their own arguments though. My table knows I will significantly lower the DC if they come up with convincing dialogue.

Yeahhh people who don't respect the dice and decide to make players be their characters just don't deserve to have players at their table. End of story.

As a DM what I offer is to persuade me rp wise and if they do a good job (and my group usually loves this) I just let it auto succeed. If they dont do a good job but it wasnt bad I let them roll anyways but with advantage. If its bad they usually know and to console them I let them roll anyways.

It's call Roleplaying, not Rollplaying! Tell me what you're doing! But seriously, I don't do static DC, I decide the DC based on how outlandish what you are trying to do is, so before you even make a roll, you better tell me how you're trying to do it.

For me I think about the fact that you could say the same thing to different people and get completely different outcomes. I like to know the wording you're using when talking to an NPC so I can give you the accurate response for your roll plus what you said. To me it's in the same vein as asking your players where they target it on the enemy when they have succeeded on their to hit. Perhaps there's something special about if you mentioned something specific with that NPC or maybe if you aim for the right spot on the enemy it increases your damage or decreases it.

all good and well but isn't the point of games like these to play someone else? Jake the human may not always have a way with words while Jinglefart the gnome barbarian does, feels like there ain't much point in the roll if your player ALSO has to think up of a compellingly worded discussion

All well and good until the character is persuasive but the person isn’t good with words. (Turning a joke into a lecture, I’m becoming my mother.) Know your players I guess? Idk.

My issue with the "you have to persuade *me*!" thing is that, well, at that point, it's purely a roleplay scene. Don't add dice to it. Lean into the storytelling aspect.

I love the implication that all rolls are then done against the dm. Combat starts and the dm completely suited up in armor to protect themselves "Okay... Roll to hit". Also in my games when I ask the player to elaborate on how they attempt to persuade or whatever I'm asking to set a DC typically. If a player says they wish to flirt to distract then I'll ask them how do they start it off, ie give me your best/worst picks up line. A lot of fun can be made from such a small roll when given a little more time to shine.
