this was very helpful thank you. i am struggling to understand how much 4 stops would be on the fuji superia 400. so i would need to shoot 20 year old 400 iso at 100? to equal four stops??
@atanaciojohn4 ай бұрын
1 stop = half the exposure, so you would have to shoot your ISO400 at ISO25 (400->200->100->50->25).

If you keep it with projecting your film on a projector and manual editing, it can be affordable. I have tried negative stock here in japan for the first time in 15 years of having this hobby, and it's way more expensive than just shooting reversal and keeping it with projecting your footage with a projector. Have to see how the digital editing process goes as I have only edited all my films manual for the past 15 years now trying this digital hybrid option for the first time.

Hey man, I just picked up an Elmo 2400AF, basically the same as yours, for ¥1200 on ヤフオク. Deadstock, still in the plastic! I'm very excited to get shooting on it but have a quick question about Retro8. Is there an option to get scanned footage back in positive or do they always send it back in negative? Any other labs I've seen (obviously not in Japan) send scans back in positive! I don't usually edit anything so only have access to iMovie
@atanaciojohn2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the comment. I finally got a response from Retro8, and they said that they do send scans back in positive! However they charge an extra 1.5x for the scanning fees, so footage under 10 mins that usually costs 8000 yen will cost 12,000 yen. Also, the negative has to be well exposed, or they won't be able to edit the scans well. Hope this helps!

I have a question if I buy this Kodak film package will it come with multiple ones or just one ? Because it’s quite expensive and also the camera only does short videos right like 3 min but how do people have a whole film shot with it if it only makes 3min 😅
@atanaciojohn2 жыл бұрын
You only get one roll (3 mins) worth of footage per package! It’s quite expensive indeed, so I think it’ll be safer to save your shots for the moments you really want to capture. Shooting short footages (few seconds) over a long period of time (couple days/months) might also be a fun option!
@schelsiareis68592 жыл бұрын
So it means for these 3 min I can click the little thing to record few seconds and without it gets deleted I can continue in a month or few days later as well ? Btw thanks for responding ☺️

Thanks for the info! I Just got one expired Fuji Superia Xtra 400 for very cheap with an expiry date of 2006 and will use it on my Argus C3. Didn't know you had to overexpose expired film since I've only shot on new film before lol
Generally you have to switch the "white balance filter" to tungsten when you use a daylight film and vice versa.

so you should be able to say that the good in date film can be shot at 800, 1600 and 3200 ISO and push processed to get a better image, generally ISO 400 box speeds have pretty wide exposure latitude.

@Buzz26463 жыл бұрын
If the film is at least 20 years old and you are getting a usable image at 4 to 5 stops overexposed, then maybe the rule of thumb should be 1 stop overexposed for each 5 years expired, not 10 years.
@atanaciojohn3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I forgot to mention in the video, but the environment in which the film is preserved also plays a role for its decay. If it was preserved in a warm and humid place, it'll decay much faster compared to a film preserved in a refrigerator. So I'm guessing that these rolls were not preserved in the best condition.
@Buzz26463 жыл бұрын
@@atanaciojohn I agree. I suspect that older film probably has not been stored in a fridge. I think only photographers who still use film and know about film deterioration would store in a fridge or freezer. Regardless, I enjoyed your video. It was informative and the exercise you conducted was well done. Cheers.

On your comments about the automatic cameras. IF the camera doesn't have DX coding (the big silver and black pattern on the film canister) you can trick it by using the wrong filmspeed setting. IE. For a 400 ASA/ISO film, tell the camera it's 200 ASA/ISO. I do this on my Olympus XA2 with no issues at all!

基本補正等をライトルームで行わない理由は何かあるのでしょうか?
@atanaciojohn3 жыл бұрын
