Failed with a zinsser allcoat wb black matt. Painting plasterboard from HVLP 1.7 nozzle. Dilluted about 10%, patterns all good, hand control, distance, 90 deg, 50% overlap, no orange peel, very smooth finish but getting horizontal streaks / overlap colour differences. Going crazy not sure what the hell am I doing wrong.

No offense but: Maybe paint thickness, maybe spray nozzle, maybe pressure. Turning this Maybe into Exactly, is what I hoped to find out with this video, as I already knew those Maybe factors. Methodical, measurable way of setting up the thickness, fan size, pressure, etc is what we need. So we have re-peatable expected results without guesswork.

I'm glad you've done this vid. I have this discussion with other decorators who spray. They don't seem to understand that your overspray needs to land on a wet surface so it can absorb in and flow out as it dries. If the overspray lands on a dry unpainted surface it dries as dust and then subsequent coats over the top lock in the dust and also affect the adhesion. Cheers bud.

Great tip mate. I have had arguments with other deccys for years over this. When you learn to spray, any techniques you've learned brushing and rolling have to go out of the window. Never too old to learn.

Pricing is the hardest part of the job, you obviously have your set deductions you have to take into account, van leasing, maintenance, tax, insurance, fuel, company liability insurance, marketing costs, phone bills, workwear, equipment and tool purchase and maintenance costs, any premises costs and bills, accountant fees, software and website fees and then tax, N.I, pensions etc etc etc the list goes on and on. Then on top of all of that you have to price in for materials for the job, sundries and then guesstimate the time you think it'll take to do the job. Don't know about anyone else but I find the whole thing subjective at best, you'll always have someone who thinks they know your business better than you do. If a customer says I'm too expensive, I no longer try to justify it, I just walk away and put it down to them not being able to afford me. The examples of overheads above are the reason pretty much all prices will be different. Just put your price in and thats all you can do mate. Nobody is forcing them to have the work done!

We used polyurethane on this job over a plastic melamine wrap. The finish was as good as we could get it. Just remember guys with plastic wraps you’ll never get it completely smooth because the light reflects off it in places where it is bumpy. So don’t stress just do the best you can. If the customer is happy that’s what matters 👍

What gun and tip you using there fella? I've been using the Graco compact for the last couple of years with graco fflp tips. I'm finding no matter how much I tweak the pressure, viscosity and temp of the paint, whichever filter or tip size I'm always getting spits. Thinking it might be time to invest in a new gun.

I've been airless spraying for about 15 years, I've never had a tip wear out. As you said in this clip, just change them every 2 or 3 jobs. They also help the efficiency and life of your pump if they're newer.

What do you prefer to use for all woodwork airless or hvlp? I’ve got a 495 pro but not sure if that’s the best for glossing woodwork I’m thinking a hvlp would be more controllable
@abodeacademy2 ай бұрын
HVLP all the way for intricate woodwork like spindles. But if it's a lot of woodwork i.e. lots of skirting then I'd use airless

Nice work! Quick question, were you able to spray inside the drawer slots all ok? Looked tight.

It is tricky but it's easier with air assisted airless as it's not as fast as airless so don't have to worry about being fast and runs as much

Yes it’s all waterbased we use the Sayerlack waterbased AT99 on woodwork or Renner and Sherwin have good waterbased options. We did all our spraying pretty much in homes with people living there. We just asked them to be in another part of the house for the day or to go out
