Was up there before the paths, when the summit of Chaoruinn flipflopped between the south and middle tops. Took a while before that question was finally settled. Cornice between the two is infamous - three parties once fell through independently on one day. Teallach used to be surveyed at 913m and was even more illfrequented.

This has to be the best and most informative footage I have seen yet of liathach. Thankyou.
@hikescotland2360Ай бұрын
Liathach was one of the reasons I started the channel, some of the route guides and you tube videos didn't show or explain the difficulties of the ridge, which in good weather is not difficult. It's a totally different story in bad weather, as with most Munro walking.

Nice video and great weather to give the fantastic views from those Munro’s I stayed in the youth hostel when I did them and did the Corbett opposite the railway station the next day fond memories. Incidentally in Ralph Storers book ultimate guide to the Munro’s volume 3 central highlands he says that Carn Deargs one claim to fame is that it is by some measurements the most central Munro in the central highlands and hence in whole of Scotland…might be true worthy debate down pub thought I would share that info with you great viewpoint anyway cheers

grand decision - it narrows to a bit of a knife edge before the final peak and that would have been dodgy. i was up there a few weeks ago, lovely quiet valley walk in isn't it. by the time i came back it was dark and raining hard and that old corrugated shelter was a welcome site - lukewarm coffee with the bats.

Your approach of asking yourself what the viewer would be assisted by is a great strength of your videos. If I may I would like to share an experience I had last week weiwing the Linda Outdoors channel. She reported on and filmed her clearly competent climb of one of the great Mamores. While reading the comments left I noticed someone had accused her of placing them at risk because she had not adequately warned them of a particular descent and the overall challenge of the route. 😮 Now that route looks out on Ben Nevis, which should have been a hint! I felt very strongly that anyone who so fundamentally fails to understand their own responsibility, and the need for adaptability and their good judgement, really should not be on the munros at all. Linda Outdoors replied by stating that if they wanted that, the viewer should consult one of a series of munro guidebooks. So thx for just trying to be helpful to your fellow walkers. 👏👏 👏.JMO
@hikescotland23603 ай бұрын
@@justmyopiniontoday7548 I totally agree, people need to understand their own capabilities, learn how to use a map and compass and know when to turn back. I try to show the full route so people can be better informed before the do a walk and also to show off some of Scotland's amazing scenery for those that don't want or can't get out there.
@justmyopiniontoday75483 ай бұрын
@@hikescotland2360 Linda Outdoors has completed all 284, is experienced in mist, and frankly comfortable on summit ridges. When this viewer then went and did one of the top 10 munros - and afterwards effectively blamed Linda Outdoors for her competency... whoa. So we have to move on from this as the utube brings so much help and entertainment to our sport - that's what counts in the end. JMO.

Such a characterful ridge with features to enjoy all along - and that is before the views. I found your app 3D landscape viewing at the start so insightful. Must admit I've never paid the subscription to access those app features, and firstly rely upon a map and compass. So I have an extra reason to view your videos. 😊 Thx for posting.JMO

Excellent guide. I did this route many years ago, on a May morning with sunshine and sleety showers. At the summit of An Gearanach, a Golden Eagle glided down Glen Nevis below me, just as a rainbow emerged from a snow cloud over the Ben. One of my best memories on the hills

Navigation and experience were important elements of your climb. In the old days we might use map compass and pacing, perhaps now more digital watch with preprogrammed GPX routes. Congratulations on the winter climb . JMO

Having watched the video showing the route in good conditons, I'm not surprised we failed that time you mentioned - that final tower just disappeared up into the clag and I didn't fancy the prospect of downclimbing it, if had turned out to be yet another dead end. I'm pretty sure we were out for almost 12 hours that day and we were both absolutely beat afterwards. Still, no excuses for next time, now!

Great video as always. Would it be worthwile to hike over the Munro Top Airgiod Bheinn on the return from Carn nan Gabhar? I realise that the descend from that one is quite steep, but at least it avoids most of the boggy route through the glen. Murray from Scotland's Mountains did it, but he hiked anticlockwise, so ascended the top first. ATB Karl from Denmark
@hikescotland23604 ай бұрын
Yes, i think that is what I'd do if i was to climb them again. And there is a descent path shown on my garmin map so the descent should be okay.

@@hikescotland2360 Thanks a lot - good to know. Out of curiosity which Garmin are you using? I've bought the inReach mini2 recently, but it's a bit lacking in the mapping department. 😉I knew that beforehand, but my budget was a bit tight. Using the Walkhighlands app for navigating instead. I got the Garmin mainly because of the SOS function to give my family back home a bit peace of mind when hiking.
@adriankelly_edinburgh4 ай бұрын
Another person we'd spoken to on the route that day did exactly that but there's a bit more ascent to gain the top before descending to the glen.

@karlejnarch I use the Garmin GPSMap66i with Topo Great Britain v2 Pro 1:25k Maps, it comes with an Android phone app that also includes maps, mostly use the phone app rather than the actual GPS, keeping the GPS in my backpack for backup. The app only works if you have a qualifying garmin gps paired to your phone.
