As you mentioned - the Seiko divers are very good. I've got a 1k prospex diver and a 5k prospex LX diver, and the LX crushes the regular prospex diver. both are better than all my swiss watches. I've heard some of the new micros are even better as they just keep adding more and more lume volume.

I can see why you found Racer gloves better than Dainese gloves. And the palm sliders worked well, too (why don’t all motorcycle gloves have them?).

There was an issue on some of their gmt models where the hands don’t fully align with the indices at the top of the hour. Have you found this to be true ?

Black Bay 58, perfectly good nice watch, Not for me! A one watch collection? Save up and get yourself a a circa 1990/2000. Rolex Sub 16610. Sure it has a date, its the most useful complication on a watch next to to telling the time. Lastly , the pre ceramic Sub is the essence of cool, it accrues value, it the actual original thing it can be worn daily and you actually know what the date is. I have had mine for 31 years and it is currently running at +1 having had only two services over all that time , It is my everyday watch and yes, I have gone diving with this watch in each decade that I have owned it . If you don't want a date pre ceramic go for the 14060M . Tudor is a nice watch but if its going to be your only watch then carry on saving and have the real thing. I think this watch is rather like settling for a `Porsche Boxster when you actually always wanted the 911, and every time you encounter a 911 you will just say, yep, this Tudor is great but I wish I had the subby. The pre ceramic subby that is , not that blingy over the top slab sided version being sold a a tool watch when it is'n't. If I was to sell it it would be worth well over $12000. Hows that for the ultimate tool watch

So spend 4x the price for a watch that is mechanically far inferior to the Tudor all so you can have the name “Rolex” on it? Nah, not for me.

Can’t you just keep the gmt hand to your local time and use the jumping hour hand to track other time zones quickly? Also when you put the watch next to the Rolex it looks so much better

The rotating bezel should only be used to track a third timezone. The GMT hand shows your home time and the hour hand your local time. So it's not a good thing to rotate the bezel when traveling. Why? Because your hour hand changes the date as well. So if you're not setting the jumping hour hand to your local hour, the date wont change correctly.

IMO the overall form and proportion of the case is excellent. The side profile (is that redundant 🤔) is so attractive, I’m sure I would take it off my wrist at times, just to admire it. BTW, “Grand Seiko is Not a marketing-first company”… That statement is so very relevant in the world of watch collecting and I agree completely.

Thanks for this review. I think I’ll jump on the Racer collection as well. A question about the inner side-is there an inner lining or any additional material that would provide secondary protection in case the leather gets torn out?
@watchandhobbies7366
@watchandhobbies7366 2 жыл бұрын
A bit hard to tell, but doesn’t seem like there’s any inner lining except for the waterproof gloves. Personally I don’t think additional lining is needed underneath leather; lining is usually used with non-slid resistant materials. Plus they added a bunch of protection in likely areas of sliding or impact.

"Leather getting torn out" is not a thing that happens when you have a glove that's stitched properly with big, good quality leather panels. I've been riding for 17 years and 99% of the time I've been wearing two pairs of Racer High Ends (not made anymore sadly) that survived a couple street crashes and two race track crashes with no significant damage. Eventually the first pair started falling apart but it's impossible to fault a glove for lasting that long.

Appreciate your fair and balanced review of your Grand Seiko GMT. It truly is a beautiful watch with a tour de force innovative spring drive movement. I get your comments re the non rotating bezel. I have owned a Rolex GMT for many years and rarely changed the time zone as I was in the military where GMT was the norm. The Rolex GMT design has changed little in the years I have owned it. The aesthetic and functional change using ceramics in the rotating bezel is much ppreciated. Other manufacturers are using ceramics as well including Grand Seiko. Truth is I love everything about the Grand Seiko GMT. I would purchase it rather than acquiring another Rolex. I am happy for to own both the Grand Seiko GMT as well as the Rolex GMT. I Need to catch up.

1. GMT (Greenwich {England} Mean Time - ZULU Time) for Airline pilots, control towers and Military operations use. 2. The Hour time hack for local time. 3. The rotating bezel for the third time zone. Unless you're a pilot or engage in military operation, most people would only need to track two time zones, Dual time which this Grand Seiko is (home and local/destination time: Set the GMT hand to your home time (instead of ZULU) and Hour time hack for local time. Hope this helps

At work, I set the GMT time to, well, GMT. Like the video's author, I know most of the major city offsets from GMT, so it's a quick moment of mental math to get the time in Paris or Tokyo. (Takes less time than it does to rotate a bezel, actually!)

Just acquired this watch at a terrific price on the JP market. Black and blue are such standard colors, and I wanted something that would stand out - and I love green. (It'll complement my iPhone, LOL.) Number one reason is that it gets you that glorious golden colored GMT hand.

Hi from Brisbane, yes I agree only a nip up with the thum & index finger is enough for Seiko's as stems have been known to missalign. The reason for the "fixed" bezel is Aviation guys don't give a shit about playing with a bezel, no time. On shifts it's nice to know it's on home time thus the fixed dial. Modern aircraft have GPS digital time mode selectors so Rolex with their old school style clicker is not needed, atleast not for me anyway. It's good to know if the kids are in bed. Seiko do the Gmt 45hr sharp edge nowadays but that date dial is a fail, so it the Spring Drive Gmt 72hrfor me. Still using my SPB143j & SPB207j these days, the $9500 AU asking price will take a while. Cheers Johno :)

In Nov 2021 I bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on a steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when it's barely 40% of the latest Steel Sub's retail price (if you can obtain one) - go to an AD and try one on. An in-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, silicon hairspring, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed. Forget about the faux rivets - you cannot see them when wearing the watch and they add an interesting heritage-style idiosyncrasy.
