I don't get it. 😢 Is this a competition für disabled people? This doesn't look like Heian Nidan. 😢😢
@missis_jo19 күн бұрын
Ignore the stances and look at the techniques he‘s doing with his arms. That’s clearly Heian Ni-dan ! Arm technique is far from perfect, sure, but some kids I teach aren’t doing much better without needing to have one arm on a walking aid.

What level of kata is this?
@EliotOnline27 күн бұрын
Most of students in Shotokan learn it at black belt. Some earlier - i did practice it at 3rd kyu, but it was way to early for Sochin. Movement is not so hard, but understanding whole bunkai will be quite harder if you don't get the basics allright. Still - cool kata.
@ShotokanKaratePage22 күн бұрын
Sochin. It is a higher grade kata. Normally a Dan level

The JKA has always emphasized technical precision, discipline, and tradition. Standards may evolve with time, but the core values of karate remain intact. Perhaps what you're observing is a shift in approach or style that reflects modern influences or competition dynamics. What specifically stands out to you?

Since I dont know the rules: Can you do jump kicks, elbow shots, hooks etc. Of course not landing but is this restricted only to jabs, forntkicks, mawa and uramawa and kekomi?
@ShotokanKaratePage25 күн бұрын
Yes, in Shotokan Karate JKA competitions, jump kicks are allowed as long as they conform to the rules and are executed with proper control, technique, and intent. These competitions prioritize clean, precise techniques and emphasize control to avoid excessive contact. Here are some key points about jump kicks in JKA competitions: 1. Allowed Techniques: Jump kicks such as tobi geri (jump kick), mae tobi geri (jumping front kick), and yoko tobi geri (jumping side kick) are permitted. They must demonstrate skill, balance, and accuracy. 2. Scoring Criteria: The kick must have proper form and control. It should land on a legal target area (e.g., head, chest). The technique should be executed with kime (focused energy) and intention. The kick should demonstrate zanshin (awareness and readiness after execution). 3. Prohibited Actions: Excessive force or lack of control can result in penalties or disqualification. Jump kicks that miss completely or appear reckless may not earn points. 4. Practical Use: Jump kicks are high-risk, high-reward moves in competition. They're impressive but can leave the attacker vulnerable if not executed correctly. Competitors often use jump kicks sparingly, ensuring the opportunity aligns with their strategy and skill level.

@@ShotokanKaratePage Thank you for complete answer. I havent ever seen jumping side kick in competition. In my dojo we havent ever trained that. Sometime we trained crane kick which of course is not like in karate-kid but more like how Machida made KO in one match. That kind of kick might be impossible to do in Shotokan competition since it has to be so fast and still not hurt the opponent, not saying its easy in MMA, I think Machida is still only one who KO with crane kick.

@minutebooks3245Ай бұрын
@ShotokanKaratePage The quality of the competitor. He is much better than me. But, I attended college with at least 2 karateka whose skill was a little higher. They were not All Japan champions. I mean no disrespect. Just an observation. Perhaps Unsu has changed since the 80s.
