I loved listening to this and having a reading skill explained in such depth. Please correct me if I misunderstood anything here. Kilpatrick said the key to remembering words is not visual. It is AUTOMATICITY in phoneme analysis (pulling words apart) & AUTOMATICITY with letter sound identification (in under 2 seconds).

We have MANY MDE-funded courses coming up in late summer and throughout the year. You can complete the contact form on our website and ask for the schedule. I don't think it is posted yet on the MDE PD website.

Thank you so much for this!! How often would you incorporate the mapping into the lessons?
@LaurieWagnerBrainspring
@LaurieWagnerBrainspring 6 ай бұрын
Orthographic mapping is the process by which words are mapped and stored for reading and spelling, so rather than "teaching" it, you are reinforcing its development during many parts of instruction when a student is linking sounds and symbols, and when a student is fluently decoding or encoding words. In our Phonics First and Structures lessons, orthographic mapping is reinforced throughout the lesson components: visual, auditory, blending drills; word and sentence dictation when mapping words to print by fingertapping, and when introducing irregular (red) words by mapping sounds and identifying where sounds and symbols do not match.

Direct Instruction SRA is more structured and the application of those reading skill is not left to chance in the reading learning development of the student. The Reading Mastery and Language for Learning DISTAR programs have been proven extremely effective for students with learning disabilities.

Can you go through the training without a bachelor's degree and still tutor?
@BrainspringOrtonGillingham
@BrainspringOrtonGillingham 10 ай бұрын
Liz, this is a great question! Bachelor's degrees ARE required for certification. Tutoring without a degree would be up to the organization that you choose to work with. If you have further questions, feel free to visit our website! brainspring.com/certification/

Is there a software program fir at home so an adult can learn these techniques at home?
@BrainspringOrtonGillingham
@BrainspringOrtonGillingham 2 жыл бұрын
Because of the intense nature of teaching students with reading differences, the Orton-Gillingham methodology is taught directly to participants rather than via an unmonitored software program. We do, however, offer Self-Paced courses that are monitored by Instructors and provide individualize feedback. We also hold courses via Livestream format in real time. You can review all our offerings on our website: brainspring.com/course-description/

If you were doing a typical lesson (Layer 2), it would take approximately 50 minutes to complete all the components? So, two lessons in an hour is not appropriate right?
