For everyone attempting to learn German, after you get a year of schooling to get the basic grammar down, do one thing: build your vocabulary. Everything else is incidental. Just take some simple German texts and -- painful and tedious as this sounds, because it is -- start translating them into your native tongue, writing the translation of every unfamiliar word in the linespacing above or margins beside the unfamiliar word. It's a hard slog at first, but trust me, after you've translated the same word a few times, it will be in your permanent memory. Do this for a while, and you'll be surprised at how you can suddenly use the language and understand almost everything. That, and try to watch German-language documentaries to get the sound of the language in your ears. (Narrators speak more slowly and distinctly than actors do in dramas.)

His German is very good. But he still uses the American hand expression for "3" (or "drei") rather than the German one which is used by the German interviewer. See this around the 37 second mark.
