Really learned a lot from this video, thanks Pete. 1 new sub :)

I actually learned soooo much from petes lessons in rhythm magazine many years back, and 100 tips for drums really shaped my knowledge, and gave inspiration to study further. To this day it's still a really important book for drums. Plus Im a lefty too, so I no longer felt alone there haha. Big Thank you Pete. Would love to come by for lesson in person someday

Have been a subscriber to Rhythm magazine for many years when they published. Still have piles of old copies I enjoy going through. Pete Riley's lessons were always interesting and challenging and it's great to discover so many here after subscribing online. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication!

It may seem counter intuitive, but I heard that if you turn off sending shorts to your subscribers they have a better chance of getting better traction. Something about if it takes hold of a few new viewers the algorithm pumps it out to far more... Food for thought. I thought this beat would be easy but I'm struggling around the downbeat back into the fives lol. Sorry for essay I'll keep practicing...😅

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of that-I’ll look into it. As for the groove, the other approach is to maintain the basic feel/backbeats but gradually add each subsequent hat accent.

Excellent video! You are a very good teacher. I've watched a few different videos teaching this (mis-named) six stroke roll and yours is the best. You broke it down very clearly, then took it the furthest with your variations and excellent tips regarding dynamics and other nuances. Thank you and keep up the good work! 👏

Drummers need to stop watching this sort of contrite robotic garbage. Play what you feel & let your own style flourish.
@daveh705011 ай бұрын
You can only "play what you feel" if you have the tools to do so. Building rhythmic vocabulary and fluency enables expression. This video is a gold mine for developing both.
@hughzapretti-boyden918711 ай бұрын
@@daveh7050 I'm sure Bonham, Moon, Downey, Dee etc wouldn't have got anywhere as drummers without 'rhythmic vocabulary' & '6-stroke roll phrasing'! 🐂💩.
@lokinslawomir079311 ай бұрын
I mean you can use this information to do exactly that though, through experimenting with it and what you like the sound of. The argument can be made both ways. If you’re unwilling to learn knew things from other people or hear them out whatever inspires them or moves them, the entire point of listening to music is null and void.
@hughzapretti-boyden918711 ай бұрын
@@lokinslawomir0793 garbage! I don't care what inspires etc other people, what inspires me is more important. You couldn't tell the difference between a Black Beauty & a Brooklyn Steel if you were blindfolded. ps. I was in the music industry 40+yrs & funnily enough played the drums & still play now just for pleasure.
@lokinslawomir079311 ай бұрын
@@hughzapretti-boyden9187 my god do you only think of yourself, main character syndrome? I’m not listening to music because of what you want or think, I’m doing it for me, and that’s not garbage, in my opinion :) and your way is fine too, you’re entitled to feel that way, but attacking other people makes it appear as if the only expression you enjoy partaking in is bullying people for what they do because you don’t like it…
