My fav book this year was either “As good as dead” or “the song of Achilles” ❤ one shocked me and the other made me suffer 😅

Both of those were good for such different reasons 😂 I loved Song of Achilles! I liked As Good As Dead but it felt like 2 different books and I didn’t fully understand why the second half was necessary 🥴 though the ending had me kicking my feet!

My first and favourite book is THE ALCHEMIST❤ REASON👇 Bit a long story👇 please read because it take 15 minutes to write. At age of 21. I decided to work in a school to earn some money. Main reason to work to fulfill my need and not to burden my parents. At that time my family went through some crisis. I'm mentally stressed and felt bad about my self. I need a break. I felt like trapped in something and not able to come out. Also, I wonder why every bad things happening for me . I can't focus anything. At that time i spent time in reading quotes and motivation stories to boost my mental health. Accidentally I came across the book The Alchemist. The story line caught me . I decided to buy it. During that time the amount I spend it was precious for me. When I unpack the book I felt happy. When I read it is felt special and hope to follow my dream no matter what happens in my life. That confident created in my heart after a long time. Also I own the book now. I always used to recommend this book everyone when they decided to read books. And encourage beginners, students, and adults everyone to read atest once in their lifetime.this is my most re read book . This book change your perspective❤❤ Its me manisha and thats my story I'm from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🎉❤️❤️

🌺💌Right now, my favorite book is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The characters are so strong and the narrative is beautiful. Everything about the book is amazing. I love that it is narrated by Death and the way it’s formatted. The story itself is stunning and heartbreaking. I love when a book will make me cry and, I have to admit, I cried a ton with this book! I finished it and didn’t know what to do with my life!❤❤

I'd never really thought of authors reviewing other authors in that way before. I self-publish very niche genre books, and I quickly realized that bookstagram for that genre is basically just authors following and promoting other authors. And honestly, they're all so buddy-buddy with each other that I don't really trust their reviews at all. It feels more like a system wherein they all promote each other's books because they're friends, rather than one in which I'm really getting any valuable information about books that I might like. It would be a bit jarring if one of them suddenly started posting negative reviews. There are just a few book reviewers who aren't also authors around for that genre, and I noticed myself trusting their reviews so much more, even though at least one of them also has a policy of not posting any reviews that are less than 3 stars (with the explanation that they wouldn't recommend anything less to 3 stars anyway, so there's no reason to put it out there). I've been toying with the idea of starting a booktube or bookstagram account because I love discussing books (anything I read, not just ones that fit into the niche genre), but I've found myself really hesitant to write any negative reviews (even though for now, I'm just writing them in a google doc). I'm not sure if it's because of the potential colleague principle so much as knowing how bad negative reviews can feel. But it's true that I've definitely bought books based on someone's negative review before. I think a good book reviewer should give enough background and information on the book ahead of their opinion that a viewer should be able to tell if it's something they would like, even if it isn't to the reviewer's taste. But sometimes it feels like that thing in How I Met Your Mother, I think? It's where someone points out something negative or annoying about someone, and suddenly the glass shatters and that's all you can see. If I read a book after seeing a negative review, sometimes the negative things that were pointed out in a review really stick out to me more than they would if I hadn't seen that review.
@searchingforsamantha9 күн бұрын
I think all of this is so valid! I feel like negative reviews are an important part of the ecosystem of art, so I don’t begrudge any Booktubers who share negative reviews, including of my own books. I would hope that they would be thorough and kind, but that’s not for me to enforce. Ultimately I am choosing to be an author over a reviewer I guess!

The whole thing about not bashing colleagues feels like it comes from a good place, but I feel like there is already so little honest constructive feedback on books. People have really inflated star reviews because they feel like giving a book less than 3-4 stars is mean or bad, and they feel badly about it (I do this too!). I really value your constructive criticism of books in the past and I do like your point of how you've found some books from "negative" reviews because they described things you knew you'd like. I think saying "this book wasn't to my taste and here's why" is useful, whereas saying "this book is bad, don't read it" is inappropriate. So I'd personally still like to hear your "negative" reviews, but if you don't want to do them that's okay too! I do like the way you still told us all your read books for the month and gave us a top three. That feels useful even without reviews of the other books.
@searchingforsamantha9 күн бұрын
Yeah, I think that was my initial response! But I think ultimately my decision to be an author undermines the appropriateness of even those subjective reviews. And maybe one day I’ll find a way to do it that feels okay, but for now I think this feels like the right thing. I’m glad the new format still feels helpful!
