If you look at the whole fight, I rather think it is not only a problem of equipment like a too hard feder but also the vehemence of the fighting. Concerning the stab towards the face: even with special training, the neck can only hold up against an approx. weight/pressure of 15 kg, as far as I know. So it lies in the responsibility of the fighters to use less aggression and lighter feders to prevent serious injuries. In the heat of a fight and in tournament conditions, it is understandable that a certain motivation of winning is given, but it should never exceed the threshold to be willingly taking risks of injuring your sparring partner/opponent just to win the tournament. And if you look at what happens after, with the remaining fighter/medics/staff grinning at the prone combatant, you get a little hint of the given mindset here; in MY humble opinion.

Strikes with the strong are not counted? Seriously? How is that historically accurate, when we know swords cut quite well with the strong and we have explicit illustrations showing cuts with the strong?
@HEMAPraha2 ай бұрын
It is specifically stated and shown: with the very strong part, shields of the feder or ricasso. And that's done to avoid accidental strikes with the guard and emphasise and reward options with control over just zwerckoptering. No flats contributed as well to that :)
@borislavkrustev89062 ай бұрын
@@HEMAPraha Most longswords have no ricasso. And there is no "very strong" of the sword. Strikes with the guard are already forbidden. It's unclear and confusing.
@superiorhema2 ай бұрын
@@borislavkrustev8906in the US and Canada almost every tournament disallows cuts with the strong or lower third. So this seemed normal to me. Two ways that the rules came about. 1 is Mike edelstein and blood and iron and the big test cutting culture found that the strong doesn’t build up the velocity to cut through bigger targets, especially with more clothing or layers added. It instead is closer to “hitting” or punching someone with a sharp peice of steel. Relying on the blunt force and extra weight of the blade. (Which obviously will hurt someone in the head like the picture you described. But isn’t the same as the hewing strike) And the second in the lighter impact tournaments, is usually the acknowledgment that it’s not as great at cutting as the weak, but is more stated about the safety. The strong is the bruiser and concussion maker. A thwart at an acceptable speed to the side of the head will be fine with the last third. But might concuss with the same cut if hit with the lower third. I’m not saying that this is how you should have rules, but that to the North American audience this the norm and it was more surprising to see you complain about it so strongly. (Also ricasso can just be used as a general term for the part of the blade right above the cross)
@borislavkrustev89062 ай бұрын
@@superiorhema Yet there are historical sources which actually show cutting with the strong is effective. Whether the cut is effective as a cut or just splits shit open like an axe, the key question according to the claims of the ruleset is whether it's gonna wound with a sharp sword. And it is. I have no problem with the safety argument, if that was the case. But no such argument is made, and considering what flex they allow (you can see the very stiff swords used in this video), they have no grounds to make the safety argument anyway. IME Zwerch is most dangerous when it hits the side of the head with the middle. The strong usually lacks a lot of velocity, cuts with the middle to the side of the mask are the worst. My complaint is not tied to the specific rule - but to the claims made in advertising the tournament and it's ideologues. They criticize other tourney rulesets when they make certain rules because of lack of "martial reality", they make bold claims about their ruleset and in the end confusing and weird rules like that show up. (Also ricasso can just be used as a general term for the part of the blade right above the cross) - yes, if you want to use it incorrectly :)
