It's amazing what people invented way back when!! And one just doesn't sit right down and play something like that. I'm a testament to that because I'm a beginner at the piano 🎹 It takes almost a lifetime of practice and practice and learning to play like that!! Bravo 👏🏻

It would be really helpful to show close up views of reeds and mouth pieces. The instrument in the middle looks like it has a grass reed the same as an instrument a friend of mine has, and the sound is very similar., as opposed to a rigid cane reed. I’d love to know but I can’t tell because you didn’t show it. Such a tease…..

Gosh that is painful. I just went to the MiM in Bruxelles and was shocked by the tiny amount of instruments they show (relative to what they have in storage), pointless selection, bad lighting and the ridiculous documentation. So Madam Stolk should have better kept her remarkable father‘s collection, because now it is gone forever as are so many others, including even that of Fetis himself!

@@bluesky6361 I detest that too. But I am partial to sinister hurdy-gurdy, which occupies a bit of a middle ground between Baroque and Death Metal.
making one of these from scratch or a kit appears to be my only option.. anyone know of companies marketing the mother-and-child styles? seems like only antiques are available. I make dungeon synth for a living, and this is something I would use every day.

The ottavino has the density, timbre, intensity, and tonal quality of a soprano singer while the normal instrument has the density, timbre, intensity, and tonal quality of a tenor singer! Both keyboards sound together as if they were mother and child!!!!!

I have never seen this ever before. It is an amazing harpsichord and the fact that you pull out of a compartment on the harpsichord another smaller keyboard allows you to couple the notes played below. What an incredible and enjoyable performance and I hope you have more in the future. Best regards Patrick. of Canada.
