I was at Middle Wallop for this display but back in the late 1960s I was actually stationed there while I was training to be an Air Tech with REME. Later posted to Detmold and other places.

My father was one of the pilots in this approached at Wallop airfield but I can't remember if it was was 90-92 or 96. They were parked up behind Danbury ring in the fields. Awesome sight. 👌 looking back now wish they had done a low rush for the crowds and passed overhead. Wouldn't happen now.

They did more or less the same, rising from behind the hill in 1986 at the 50 years spitfire meeting

Superb video. Tough questions need to be asked of the politicians as I bet these days as a country we would never be able to get anywhere near this number of helicopters up at once. Retiring loads and loads of older things and replacing with them tiny numbers of new things.

Fantastic. The B1b is still the only aircraft that has ever made me stick my fingers in my ears!

I was there, thought it was my bad memory turning 10 helicopters into 100, but damn it really was a lot, very impressive.

Glory days! Think still holds record for biggest helicopter display ever? Makes all the hard work getting them all serviceable at the same time worth it!

I remember this - forgot how many there were, shame you missed the very start where they rose from behind the trees on the hills in the distance

From the internet it seems there was only one year 1996 they did this, but I'm sure they this earlier as my dad was a QHI at Wallop and retired from flying around 95/96 but was in the massed approach in a gazelle despite being a QHI and TWHI ., did they do this early 90's? If so does anyone have footage?

I remember attending this event, I would probably rate this as one of the the best days out I've ever had! Shame I only had a stills camera with me. There was an official video apparently, but never managed to secure a copy. Would be interested in obtaining some more footage of the live fire event, if anyone has some and is willing to share. Hopefully they will run them again one day!

I live in wiltshire and went to a few of the artillery days in the early 70's and a schools careers day when they did live firing. I think they stopped due to security reasons and the IRA troubles of the 70's. Never knew they held any of them since then. As a lad we could hear the whoomp of the distance big guns going off nearly every day and see flashes at night when night firing went on (I live 20 miles from ranges) - since the 70's it has got very quiet. I presume the cost cutting means lots less live firing

This brings back find memories - this was the first time I went to the airshow. I was 11 and my dad worked as an engineer on the base. Watching these helicopters live is breathtakingly spectacular. Other highlights I recall are the Crunchier plane wing walkers, The Little Nellie copter and the harrier jet display! Thank you for sharing!!
