You have the best, and in many case only info on this stuff. If you don't mind I have a question I can't really find good answers for: Since Double Super 8 is 16mm film with the same size holes in it, just more, could you buy bulk 16mm and make a jig that just cuts the holes in yourself (obvious in a dark room etc.)? I found almost nothing on the subject on line. I went so far as to look up if you could laser cut the film with certain colored lasers that wont expose the film, but would prefer not to burn my house down.

I had a die for perforating film for DS8 cameras made 20 years ago and it cost me $7500. It would cost twice that these days. It is extremely precise work and happens under a microscope to make one. Unless you are an engineer and a tool and die maker you will never be able to make one.

You could not with this system. It’s mounted to rods that prevent turret rotation. You could use a measuring tape for focus. You would frame with the door mounted auxiliary parallax viewfinder.

So, isn't the modern difficulty usually the frames falling out of sync with the sound, especially with the start/stop nature super 8? Doesn't this solve that? i.e. you can clap at the start, rip the audio to digital, and mate it to the video in post? Just ignore the sync channel?
@paulcotto2 ай бұрын
Yes, if you have the ST1200 projector and the resolver you should have perfect sync. No clapper is required because the camera is driven my the recorder. The recorder rolls and then the camera rolls in sync. There were many attempts by camera companies to do this and ELMO got it to work. The down side these days is the lack of sound stripe service.

@paulcotto2 ай бұрын
Its a Blackfly-S Model BFS-U3-32S4C-C. The lens I use is a Switar 50mm non RX on about 6 inches of c-mount extension tubes. The trigger is a Optical Endstop Limit Light Control Switch that goes into a DC Solid State Relay. The relay goes to a special cable and acts as the switch to trigger the camera logic to take a frame picture.
