Between amp and pickup you could put a 'Impulse response loader' (pedal), with a 'banjo impulse response (IR) archive', to emulate a banjo acoustic sound. In this link acousticir.free.fr/spip.php?rubrique2 you can download Banjo IRs. Alternatively you can test this in your DAW (computer), to know if this a good idea. I was looking for a good DIY pickup to try this in my Line 6 Pod go (it's have a IR loader).

Dude, I bought a cheapo Rouge banjo a few months ago.... Cut me a slide and I am using that.... Got the mic on it, use the Tascam for effects..... If you got a banjo, think blues for a spell.....

Thanks! The tuning is eEBEF# ...basically double-C turning capoed at the 4th fret, with drone sting tuned down to E. It's a fun tuning to play around with, it's like double-C but more drone-y.

Right? Like I’d always heard that blues had its roots in Africa (for obvious reasons) but this is the first time I’m actually hearing the clear influence.

@@jordanforbes149Blues is Amerikan music. And if it has African influences, its from the West, not the East. Ethiopia and the greater African Horn is generally culturally insular.

I see lots of african music instruments being brought over and being played by westerners, but this instrument is illusive because its just 1 string and the sound is produced by the position, and force applied by the fingers.
An amazing experience ✨️, I appreciate you. perfect 🥰

This really shows how much can be achieved by having good rhythm. One string, no fretboard, and this man is able to accompany himself perfectly. I could learn a thing or two :)

@newbeatphoto3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it. This was tuned to a double open tuning...CGC or something like that. Same relationship as double C tuning on a banjo.

Wow, impressive performance! I'm so fascinated by the diversity (yet universality) of musical instruments across the world, particular chordophones (stringed instruments)! Reminds me of the Fula ñaañeeru (similar to fiddle).

I don't know the answer. The singer here is a member of the Uduk community.
@safaellis4 жыл бұрын
@@newbeatphoto do you know anyone who is uduk? I'm asking
@newbeatphoto4 жыл бұрын
@@safaellis Thank you, that is a good questions. I only spent one week in Doro Refugee Camp in 2013 and this has been my only interaction with people from the Uduk community. My colleague at the time was an Uduk and he assisted me in filming musicians and providing the translation of the song's text. I was interested in this musician because of the style in which he plays a traditional lyre - strumming rather than plucking individual strings. This video is part of a series I produced of performances by musicians in East Africa playing traditional stringed instruments. My focus was more on music than it was on the Uduk people, although I was happy to hear about their story and culture during that week. There are other scholars with much more experience with the Uduk community than me, such as Wendy James (whose work can be found here www.voicesfromthebluenile.org), and of course - the entirety of the Uduk community itself is its own source of expertise.
