your fuel tank needs to be emptied and cleaned, ask me how I know! the motor has never let me down. till we also hit rough weather, decide to run into Bundaberg Qld. motor died, we were lucky a fishing boat was behind us gave us tow in, yep a good clean new filters etc. The bar crossing at 1770! bang motor dead in the water. we were ok this older bloke suggested putting an out board mount on the swim platform so we did. the problem is that waxy sludgy stuff builds up in the bottom of the tank, bad weather just mixers it up clogs everything. i put it down as annual maintenance job and or extended voyage check list, best of luck stay safe

Bar's are VERY crazy at time's I live on one, Humboldt bay, California, not nearly so wide and could have HUGE waves at times ! I was an engineer at a TV station their and since I was the only one who would go out on boats they would send me out with camera's to photog the tankers (huge oild tankers) ect that would go to far south and get stuck on the sandy shoals of the bay !

Thank you very much for the link to Amazon for the Batavia. Unfortunately Amazon is out of stock. Uggghh.
@SlimandSophSailingNakama10 күн бұрын
Ahhh dang, we put an Amazon link as obviously viewers are from all over the place, if you are in AUS a good online book store is Booktopia or otherwise its a great excuse to go for a drive and support a local bookstore, in Australia he is a very popular auther and we often find his stuff in pretty good condition in second-hand bookstores too.
@mountainwest344410 күн бұрын
@@SlimandSophSailingNakama Thanks for the heads up.... for Australians. Unfortunately, I am in Canada. We have "Chapters/Indigo" ... another very popular bookstore in this part of the world -- they are also out of stock. I can simply wait until Amazon gets it in stock. Thanks again for the great video and update!!

That 15hp is a definite game changer,most poor people use oars and a 3 hp which is dangerous but we have time,life is not a hurry as long as the journey is safe,the sea gods have blessed you,safe sailing guys.What an adventure. Slim this is addressed to you as you do the mechanical work,keep a outboard primer pump and fuel line that you can bypass the tank from your Jerry cans if and when the tank fuel fails Nakarma,just stick it into the 20l drum and connect it to the diesel high pressure pump on the donk,can be up and running in 10 mins,ya need redundancy broo.stay safe.

Shame you weren't on a good catamaran going to windward..... Do you have a certain way that you catch the crays? I tend to come up with a handful of broken off antenna and limbs when I try and grab them... which feels very unfair on them and me hungry...Phil

Wonderful. You're now in familiar territory for me. I spent a decade or so crayfishing at the Abrolhos in my young days. I look back on it now as probably the best patch of a bloody good life. Hope to get back there on the boat I am building. You'll find that the story of the Batavia shipwreck and mutiny is on of the most appalling sagas in the history of seafaring. Enjoy ( if that's the right word for it.) I do hope that the west coast treats you with a little more consideration as you head south. Cheers dears.
