This is called the neutral wrist swing. Notice how he would step up onto his front foot. When you step up rather than swing up your eyes can remain on the trajectory of the ball better. This is done by the better tennis players as well.

It really is pretty ugly. My theory is that he got away with it because of his ability to manipulate a 33 ounce bat with his wrists and great hand eye coordination.

Hank Aaron, in my humble opinion the most consistent hitter in baseball for Average over 300, RBI over 110, over 35 home runs, over 100 Runs, over 180 hits, ever, he did it every year, if he was caucasion he would be mentioned like Babe Ruth, today no player touches his stats, or never will, he was the quiet superstar not seen until Babe Ruth home run record, shame shame, he was a giant well before

Look at his back foot how it comes of the ground when hes at the point of contact, and that's because the hips are leading the hands. Furthermore he's rotating and falling gradually into his lead hip at the point of contact. The hands roles are to, 1 keep that kinetic chain with the bat, and 2 to place and maintain the bat in the path of the ball trajectory.

I play senior slow pitch softball, for the first time in all my 25 years of playing, I' going to early, no power, lots of weak ground balls, or infield pop ups, my timing is pathetic and I have tried different stances, and holding the bat different, any idea's? Very dissatisfied with my Hitting. Help please.

Can't really say what you need to work on unless I see your seeing mechanics. It could be anything from grip, to how you use your hands. But I know what works for me is definitely is taking my hands to the ball first and then let my wrist snap the bar into the ball.

You know what' really CRAZY?! Hammering Hank is still underestimated in terms of over all talent! Seriously ... His name does not come up as much as The Babe, Joe D, The Mic and The Iron Horse. NOT that those guys are bad; they are TOLLAY GREAT! That said, Hank should be referenced much more.
@gmoney4458
@gmoney4458 4 жыл бұрын
I agree! When I'm working with my son on hitting I always reference Hank Aaaron first and how simple his swing looked, but the great balance and lack of launch angle that's all the rage. Sound, simple mechanics that keep the bat head in the hitting zone longer can lead to just as many hitting stats of the other greats you mentioned.

I hit the ball about 30 feet further with a 27 oz than i do a 30. It also comes off the bat twice as fast. Different players have different swings. I have very quick hands, but dont have a super strong drive in my hips. And to show that old timer is hardly a fair point bats back then were crude 1 piece metal bats that didnt reply on compression for distance so the theory of heavy mass did equal more distance. Now with composite bats and even better two piece composites, bats now require more pat speed then mass to get the most flex out of ball and bat. While i would still say go heavy, just find that middle point were you are getting a little more mass, but maintaining a strong bat speed. for me that was a 27oz. For others it will be different
