4 tips for you for handling fish decently: 1. wet your hands before touching; 2. never land on the grass or soil but in the water (where do you have a wet suit for?); 3. use barbless hooks; and 4. don't squeeze them just after the head (their heart is there). But nice lake you were.

Haha, any bit in particular? I had to add the generic you tube music in last few minutes as I'd taken a phone call , and no one needs to be hearing me chatting to my brother about his new baby. 😂

Any salmon or sea trout in it? What rod and line are you using?
@scottishflyfisherАй бұрын
Not this far up the hill, but the burn runs into a series of lochs and they eventually run into a system of lochs holding both.
@scottishflyfisherАй бұрын
Rods a Vision ONKI , 7wt. Line is a snowbee buzzer which is a floating line with a small sink tip. Next season I'm intending using lighter rods, got into 7wts as I needed a rod i could use for trout and salmon /sea trout then for stillwater rainbows. Must break the habit!

Yes ,you could remove the tail treble or replace it with a barbless single . I try not to use trebles now , they spent more time in my fingers than the fish . Looks a good lure that what brand etc ?

is your fly line intermediate or sinking?
@scottishflyfisher2 ай бұрын
It's an airflo coldwater sinking . Think they have discontinued the line now. It's a di7 sink rate.

Why do so many 'experts' claim it's impossible to catch wild lochan trout in a flat calm? It's just not true. However, I do get more success on a lighter setup that the one you're using.
@scottishflyfisherАй бұрын
Yeah , I got into the habit of using 7wts but I'm trying to wean myself off them. 😆 Next year I'll be using a 5wt more often.👍🏻

Can't give exact location I'm afraid, but the most local public fishing is through either Kinlochbervie and Durness Angling Club or Scourie and District Angling club. Both do day or week tickets , and between them have access to over 100 lochs. 👍🏻

Braw fish. I've decided I'm gonna try sticking to static dry on the hill lochs next season, only really just started it at the very back end of this season, but it's definitely worth it. Even when fish aren't rising, seem to do better on them.

Thank you. Can't wait to head back next year. Hopefully earlier in the season. Last year my mate was pulling a size 8 Goddard Caddis on this loch and the fish were hitting it like a popper. An HUGE fish came off it a few years back (double figures) and the boy killed it. Was raging when I heard that.

Your channel is very good and deserves to be better known. I have fished Loch Horn several times back in the 90s and had some very decent fish, as I see did you. Evenings are best, especially after the sun has disappeared behind the hills, but the walk back down the hill in the dark can be tricky! Thanks for reviving good memories.

Many thanks. I am VERY much an amateur at the video editing, hopefully I will improve in the near future. I just do this for fun, though this video was a stab at promoting my (then) local fishing club. I intended to do similar videos for lunddaidh and brora but a divorce got in the way!

Brilliant video! Excellent showcase for loch Horn! I'm up on holiday in Dornoch this week, I'm fishing tonight and Thursday on the Kyle of Sutherland at Bonar Bridge for sea trout (hopefully!!) And I'm blown away by the angling opportunities locally, in stunning surroundings! As a utuber myself, I understand the effort that goes into editing these films. Well done! Subbed👍

Wish you would show the flies that you used. It does not need to be a secret as we all fish in different Ways. But it would be a help in what flies to bring when you travel 400 Hundred miles to try your luck.
