Crosshatching was not the most important thing about Crumb. It's annoying how so many artists focus unduly on that. His outlines, borderlines, and parallel line shadows work fine without crosshatching, I think.
@sketchmanboris8 ай бұрын
Yes I also feels like it comes naturally to him, I believe in copying the greats, and that in turn helps you improve
@DexterHaven8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think you are onto something. Crumb said he copied Dick Tracy when he was a young kid learning. I like Hershfeld's style too. I copied his way of drawing a glass. @@sketchmanboris

I think drawing is boring. Unless you really have the magic eye-hand coordination, if not that in-born talent and photographic eye that makes it an ever going exciting task, well, after a while it just sucks. Crumb got better as years went by. Too much work and discipline as he says.

So u don't have to draw the shapes then add details Or u can add details instead drawing the shapes first?
@sketchmanboris Жыл бұрын
Since the skeleton is the same for all the human beings, and understanding the inner structure is always better then just relying on the outline, and the stick figure is a way simplify the skeleton structure, You can also start with shapes and then details too

You mean the linear cross hatching or just drawing in general by Robert Crumb?
@MisterNiles Жыл бұрын
@@sketchmanboris It's that amazing crosshatching. He's as good as Durer when it comes to that. I think he has magical powers. Then again, his line drawing is also amazing. I personally thought you did a pretty good job. I'll get in the right kind of trance once in awhile and do something cool. Can't do it on purpose though.

Hello, Snowpiercer writer Lob wrote the story for drawer Alexis who sadly passed away after 15 pages of work, Lob then asker Jean-Marc Rochette to draw it. They released the comics in magazine A Suivre! in 1982/83 book was released in 1984 and had a minor success. Lob passed away in 1990 and Rochette with new writer Benjamin Legrand released 2 new books in 1999/2000 but it failed at saling. The comics slowly fade away from memories. The miracle came as director Bong Joon-ho found the books (a pirate edition by an obscure editor) at a comics shop in Seoul and decided to made a movie. Rochette who stopped comics to do painting was amazed by this and get back to draw a following sequel. He paid tribute to Alexis & Lob who didn't get the chance to see that evolution.

Many years back I had a set of softcover Crumb sketch books put out by Fantagraphics that I ended up having to sell when times were tough. Last year I found out about this new Taschen set and over the course of a month bought 1 though 5 (I think that's all of them). They are still wrapped in plastic though, because I haven't had the spare time I want to really get into them, and I'm also weird about wanting to protect them. Watching you go through volume 1, I've decided I'm going to make time this weekend.
