Well done video w/great info. I have one toilet that has that white type of flush valve that you talked about second on your video. Will a regular flapper type valve assembly work on that type toilet. I don;t even know what the second type valve is called to order one if I wanted to replace it with the same type. Could you tell me what that White model is called to find one to buy...Thanks. Phil

How do I change my old (1991) flush valve to the newer larger flush valve if the tank and bowl holes are smaller? Won't the water use result be the same? What am I missing? Thanks, great video.
@WagnerPlumbing Жыл бұрын
Since your existing toilet is from 1991 like you said, it probably uses 3 gallons per flush, so the parts in my video probably wouldn't help, Maybe if you send me a picture of what's in your existing tank I can help you further

The small valve. What is the min height of water above the valve that will let the unit work ? 1/2" ... 1" ... 2" ... ??? Can the whole valve be submerged in water and still work ? (Breather vents.) (Ballcock fitting included) I want to fill a 22 gal tote with water but only 7" high. I will have 2" water + or - above valve.
@WagnerPlumbing2 жыл бұрын
Some fill valves can be fully submerged, but that is a diaphragm style wich in my area are illegal because the anti-sypon device has to be above water for chemical water safety

@WagnerPlumbing2 жыл бұрын
You could but the reason it sticks or doesn't float right is either a handle issue or the rubber/plastic of your current flapper has worn. A new universal korky flapper will fix the problem. Hope I helped !!!

Hi Jeff, thanks for the great video! I'm ready for a new toilet. The bowl-flanges cracked at the floor bolts.Do you think a new toilet with 1.28 gpf would be ok without the new bowl designs? Is it fully acceptable as far as clearing the bowl? Or should I invest more money to get a 1.6 gpf dual style, even though I'm not sure those bowl designs are good or not. My tank is stamped some month and day in 1988, though I'm pretty sure I put it in in the nineties or early 2000s. maybe it says 1998 but I can't tell. The tank seems to be about 3 gallons, and the bowl seems not round, and not elongated, but in between. The bowl opening (ID) measures 10"w by 12" front to back. I also want to avoid special coatings, as I tend to use harsh chemicals since they're concentrated industrial strength I get through my commercial dealings. Can you comment for me sir, and advise? Thank you!
@WagnerPlumbing3 жыл бұрын
Ok, where to start,,, most modern 1.28 gallon flush toilets work, I prefer a Pro-flo high efficiency 1.28. It has a 3" flush valve. You can find one at you local Ferguson supply house, the high efficiency descriptiob is the key. But both Kohler and American Standard make great units, both with different flush valve styles. Kohler a barrel style,, American Standard a vortex which is there own design, when in doubt read web reviews those are from tested consumers. You may see more videos from me of toilet install jobs. I love the Pro-flo. All can be bought in round front or elongated and comfort or ADA heights,, I like ADA but mostly because I'm tall and will eventually want the ease as aging happens, Hope this helps

Why would my toilet fill slowly with lots of water pressure, if I remove the water tube to the outside of the overflow tube it fills up faster?
@WagnerPlumbing3 жыл бұрын
Well the small fill tube is just to fill the bowl, if you put it in the main tank your shorting you bowl rim of water, Then if the main valve seems like it's filling slow, it's probably constricted internally from hard water, Hope that helps

@WagnerPlumbing3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time it means it's still jammed or stuck, try using a flashlight to look down the throat of it in sink to see if you can discover what made it get stuck, but remember to unplug it before sticking your fingers inside

Hey what do you think of the older American Standard Champions (white towers)? Also what do you think about their newer Champion 4 valve?
@WagnerPlumbing3 жыл бұрын
American Standard makes good well tested components, the old tower worked and repairing was basic but specific as you could only use there parts, Thats the same with the new style, if it fails you need to call American Standard for replacement parts since the suppliers don't carry yet

I would have a garbage disposal installed a utility sink in my backyard near the compost heap and grind my food scraps/yard waste into a bucket before pouring into the compost heap.
@WagnerPlumbing4 жыл бұрын
While that sounds like a super handy idea, I don't think a residential garbage disposal would work there, you would have to get a commercial restaurant style disposal to grind up food waste
@elevatorproductionsbymaxpassa4 жыл бұрын
@@WagnerPlumbing I would rather have my kitchen sink be without a garbage disposal because I don't like having issues with my kitchen sink getting clogged up and my septic tank getting backed up at times. I like composting my food scraps and having it become fertilizer for my lawn and garden.

@@elevatorproductionsbymaxpassa I agree with that 100%, I remove them often and install a sink strainer with a deep catch basket making it easier to catch the food debris for compost, and also not creating clogs !!!

Would have been nice if he had done a comparative commentary on which one (if any) works best. None of these MickeyMouse valves , incl the Korky (not shown), work worth a damn longterm...nothing but a host of irritating problems due to crappy materials, defective designs &/or planned obsolescence...this Sucks. I've got 4 toilets in my house, using a variety of flush valves, & between the bunch of them, I'm constantly working on them. I'd gladly pay twice as much for one that could be relied upon...or an old fashion float ball valve ;(

My garbage disposal was jammed. It would only hum and not spin. I used an allen wrench and broke it free. The allen wrench turns the garbage disposal all the way around but not easily - it seems to drag. When I tun it it on it still hums. It has not been used in a very long time. Any suggestions? I really don't want to remove it from the sink mounting.
@WagnerPlumbing3 жыл бұрын
Not using it or running it gums them up so if it hums but doesn't turn its just gummed up and needs a good deep cleaning, watch my tuneup video

Mine cannot be fixed, or at least I don't think it can. It isn't stuck or anything like that, It is also NOT leaking. The motor works great, but the disk does not spin. It Is as if it is completely disconnected from the motor. So, I am guessing that I have to get a new disposal. Makes sense, the dam thing is almost 30 years old.

NebTheWeb yes that usually means the motor is not connected to the impeller and the shaft is broken, so it's time for a new unit

The mini valve is not recommended for low height tanks because there's not enough pressure to shut them off and it leaks constantly into the overflow tube. The instructions fine print give this warning, so be careful and measure the tank height to see if it can be used safely.
