Is the appoggiatura on the previous beat before the quarter note in this example. Or is it on the same beat as the quarter note?
@LearnPianoCompleteGuideАй бұрын
Technically all of the grace notes pictured are "on the same beat" as the quarter notes. But obviously just follow the explanation to know where to insert it rhythmically.

thank you for the video❤ One question though, on the second variant the legato why is the last note hollowed out?
@LearnPianoCompleteGuide4 ай бұрын
@@smonkwad the last note is hollow in each example, the legato and staccato examples. That is called a “Half Note” which is just a note that lasts for 2 beats. You can learn about the different types of notes in my other video “different types of notes”

so in the case of appoggiatura, the grace note and quarter note together take up the length of time of just one quarter note, effectively shortening the actually written quarter note?
@LearnPianoCompleteGuide5 ай бұрын
Yes that is correct

What if a dotted quarter note is next to a dotted quarter note.? Does the next dotted note end on the &? I'm Confuse. 😅
@LearnPianoCompleteGuide8 ай бұрын
If you have 2 dotted quarters in a row, the first one will be “1-2” the 2nd will be “& 3”. The first one takes up “1-&-2” 2nd one takes up “&3&” although it is not necessary to “say” the “&” at the end in this case.
@kakaandbeyond8 ай бұрын
@@LearnPianoCompleteGuide Sorry, I meant "start" not "end". Cool! I knew it! I always measure the spaces even if its a whole note Including the &s. I don't know if that's gonna be a bad habit and also confusing but, that way i can see the note value properly.

Interesting, but maths is intimidating me to the point that my mind closes in... Sad, but this is me. I wish I had the capacity to get it... never mind I can still tickle the keyboard and that is fine.

You know maths for me was and still is my enemy. I just didn't realize that maths and music go hand in hand. No wonder I had problems in school with this very thing. That is why I opted to play by ear and have nothing to do with this... Bless you is good to see it now that I am not in school, thank God, but still got the nightmares... When I play by ear is a different life. That is why notes tend to intimidate me somehow. Is strange, but I try to kind of apreciate them🙂.

I don't see what the problem is with some of these comments. I knew all of the piano performance signs like turns, mordants, trills and portato by the time I was 11. Some people just want things their way, no interest in trying something new. Luddites.
