Surprised the auto-pilot does not give an audio alarm when it runs out of waypoints while active. Is this a normal thing to happen?

This is similar to how automatic transmissions in cars make texting and doing other dumb stuff while driving possible. You're supposed to be paying attention, and that should be inconvenient to some extent because you're controlling thousands of pounds of metal barreling down the road.

Fell asleep on the job, that happens, BUT YOU’RE AN AIRLINE PILOT. SLEEPING ON THE JOB IS PROBABLY NOT REAL GOOD IN THIS CASE. Someone forgot to set their alarms? Just watching cop cam videos of people being arrested at airports keeps me from flying. This doesn’t help.

Piloting a boat in the middle of the ocean we had loud ass alarms that would sound if you didnt hit a reset button every so often. Seems like this would have been a thing when you are in charge of 140 lives…

23F isn't even remotely "severe cold" unless you live in Florida. It's a typical winter temperature anywhere in the US northeast (and a lot of other places in the US and Canada as well). I'm sitting in Connecticut in January at the moment and its 13F. Going to be 6F in three days. If there isn't a minus sign in front of it, the temperature is just "cold."

Whenever I fly, I like to look at the screen to see how long the flight is, how much time remaining, and what city/country we’re flying over. I wonder if any passenger on the plane got suspicious or even asked why they flew way past their intended destination/airport and were delayed for over an hour? Did no one ask why the flight was taking too long or why they flew past their destination? Usually, the pilot or the FA would even intercom the passengers about the delay for some sort of reason. Moreover, it’s a much bigger deal if the military and the POTUS has to get involved. Bother them, and then read for filth. I’m glad the pilot and the first officer got their licenses revoked. This kind of distraction is inexcusable and unjustifiable.

While both pilots had their licenses revoked, they entered into a consent decree with the FAA that would let them reapply for a license after fulfilling a series of requirements. They were then re-licensed in 2011. Cheney did not return to flying and retired. Cole returned to work for Delta, but in a non-flying position.

Sounds to me like the imcompetent supervising the untrained. What could possibly go wrong .....

It doesn't give one joy to put them out to pasture with such a clean record.. But they had become unfit to serve thru complacency...

A possible fix is have a alarm in the cockpit where if it got quite tonlong it would go off after 15 minutes of total silence .if they are both asleep that would wake them both up. And a fight attendant should check them every 30:minutes
