Second vid watched and you are hitting the mark! They are pitched perfectly for me in my guitar journey which is 4 years in, have good foundational playing skills, reasonable theory and ear training - but now need to explore the fretboard and join more dots. This sort of idea and explanation is spot on - thanks so much for producing.

Hi Sean--(here's a comment i post around when it seems warranted; doesn't really apply to you ). I might say : closer camera, top of body tilted forward more/ vertical, so frtbd view is straight-on, pull headstock back a bit more , so neck aligns straight across on the horizontal "(Att'n ____ : Headstock vaulted into upper-right corner, camera BELOW the neck shot, make for fingers covering strings/frets, hence wasting our time as we decipher fingerings. Please note corrections made by Jack Ruch and other Utoob instructors : straight-on medium shot of horizontal neck proves much more effective presentation of valuable information. Thanks!)

@@themusicsalonstudio just stumbled onto yr channel. Onto it! One thing, tho--mebbe it's the (boom-y room?) audio at 5:38. Sounds like "on the E string , move it back to the E". Assume u meant D (where u landed). Neither letter shows up when i clicked Subtitle box as i attempted to verify; weird. And yeah--the thing bout JR (& Guthrie T) is their pro-shot vids & lessons are great & all, but their playing is so mind-bendingly comprehensively great just to listen to, esp JR's seperate clips of his tasteful riffing on top of the backing he uses.
@mollyp.sasser223
@mollyp.sasser223 15 сағат бұрын
Another thing ive noticed, altho it may be subtle: when instructors like JR get the primo preferred pro-shot horizontal neck/frets parallel to the screen, it's prbly b/c the torso/left shoulder of righties is tilted to the rear more, thus neck presentation takes precedence over the player/talker reflexively facing the camera directly. :)

Great lesson! I’ve been playing and teaching for almost half a decade now and I keep coming back to the fundamentals. I love your philosophy: Mastery is not a destination, it’s an endless journey. And how cool is that to realize? Our egos get destroyed on this road and from this, we become humble masters of personal self discovery. My greatest teacher taught me the most important lesson I ever learned: The only thing you really need to know is how You, personally, Learn, Work and Intend to Do With Yourself. I'm just trying to understand all this myself so take this with a grain of salt. I think you can play D maj scale with a flat 7, the relative minor Bm scale with a flat 7. Also you should be able to play G major or its relative minor Em.
