Whats interesting is ive been running the castrol transmax universal atf/cvt since 20,000 miles. Im at 81,000 miles now zero issues. I was never able to get my hands on original transmax cvt. Its been discontinued. Ive contacted castrol a few times, once about why they did away with it. In their words " it was redundant" . According to castrol the new stuff is the same as the old stuff, i dont know how its possible, but it is. Anyway, I drive a 2019 civic coupe ex-t, and you know honda people " dont use anything but honda fluid"! Ive owned this car since it was at 10,000 miles, and it still feels and drives the same as it did when i first got it. I do a drain and fill once a year, and change the cartridge filter behind the cvt warmer every year too. I did the pan filter and gasket at 55,000. Supposedly the pan filter isnt as important as the smaller filter. Either way I did it. For $23.00 at walmart for a gallon of fluid you cant go wrong. Castrol knows what theyre doing. Im also at the point where i think any cvt fluid will work. As in i bet if i were to use say ns3 in my honda it would be fine. I believe a day will come soon when all transmission fluids will be universal. If switching over to another brand though do atleast 3x drain and fill. According to the email I received from castrol its important to get as much of the old stuff out as you can. Castrol is all i use, motor oil, brake fluid, transmission obviously, grease, etc. If we still had BP gas here in VT id use their gas too. Dont be afraid to go to a different brand of fluid folks. As for warranty...theirs some law saying they cant actually deny warranty for using an aftermarket brand. Last thing, castrol i swear is a better fluid than the oem honda stuff. Its slightly thicker, just slightly, and i swear my car holds torque better.

Does Autozone or Oryleys filter after marker work as well or does it have to be OEM

So far we have only used OEM in the K5. I’m sure aftermarket filters will be fine. I prefer wix filters myself.

Perfect timing! Watched your rear brake rotor pad replacement and replaced them with no issues. Great attention to detail and instruction. (Note: I also wiped the grease on the rotor thinking it would cause issues, but from my knowledge it may have coating on.) Great video, will be replacing my front rotors tomorrow watching this video!

Thank you so much for your comment and I’m glad you’re able to get information from my videos to help you with your brakes. Let me know how the front brakes turn out. What year is your Altima and how many miles it have? Thank you!

@ Will let you know! My 2011 altima has 190 thousand miles. It took a couple of heavy hammer hits to remove the rotors, but it worked out just fine. The previous owners definitely didn’t maintain the car that well, so I replaced many essential parts (shocks&struts, cv axles, sway bar links) and brakes were last. The rear seemed to have only 0.5 mm to 1 mm padding left so I’m glad that I changed it.

I have this exact machine. I bought it at home Depot in 2003 but some years it didn't get used. I'm actually having this do a first belt replacement & no idea so I was looking at videos & wondering wth. I'm not very mechanical. And have had allot of health issues so IDK how to deal with this. 😩
@BlazerGuy198319 күн бұрын
I wished I had made a belt replacement video at the time. It was very hard to find belts and ended up using the part numbers barely legible on the old belts and various websites to get dimensions. Then I went on Amazon and to Tractor Supply to find close matches. Unfortunately, the engine is very tired and has a lot of play in the crankshaft. I rarely use it anymore because of effort it requires to start and lack of power to make a nice cut.

How dirty are those magnets with metal?
@BlazerGuy198319 күн бұрын
They weren’t too bad. My CVT now has 127,500 miles and running strong. The key is to change the fluid every 30k. It’s cheaper than a new transmission.

Is it difficult to get the filters out?
@BlazerGuy198319 күн бұрын
The screen filter inside the fan bolted to the valve body of the transmission is pretty easy to change. The harder one that I didn’t mention or show in the video is the cartridge paper filter inside the cooler line housing.

Awesome video man. Thank you for the detailed explanation. I didn’t realize Walmart sold those big jugs. I gotta get me some.
@BlazerGuy198319 күн бұрын
My local Walmart is a smaller design and stopped carrying the jugs. They maybe still on Walmart.com. They work great and have the quart measurements to really help determine the amount of fluid coming out and going in. Keep in mind transmission fluid expands when it’s hot. So maybe best to change the fluid when the vehicle is cool and close to the temp of the new fluid going in to get a better measurement.

A clicking sounds can be caused by several things. How many miles are on your Altima? Is the sound only present when moving or can you hear it when you stopped and turning wheel?

Next time you take off original struts, take them to a shop and have them swap old shock with new one. Shops will do this for you for a few buck’s . By reusing original coil springs, you keep same height. A quick strut may throw the height off and give a different ride . This may be the cause of the noise. Not 100% sure unless I see it, but a possibility.
@northpoint1039Ай бұрын
I feel your pain. I have struggled for years to find a quick strut that provides the same OEM ride as the original set installed at the factory. This problem seems to be across the board on all cars. I own a 2008 Lucerne and my first experience with quick struts were from detroit axle. These were horribly jarring. I immediately took them off and got a set by Monroe. These were a bit better but like you I felt every imperfection in the road and rode with them for a few years. Then the bearing caps failed and I very recently put on Gabriel quick struts. Again these were better than the monroes but still not the OEM ride I was looking for. So, It seems that these companies all use the same coil and just put their struts in the package. What is even worse is that when you research the coil that GM (remember I have a Lucerne) lists are actually three different types - Soft, Firm, Sport. When you shop for a quick strut though the coils all tend to be the firm type. There is no distinction in the types of coils and all the strut companies glorify their strut and do not talk about the coils. I would also have to bring up the possibility of other suspension components might be worn out. Specifically your control arms or ball joints. I replaced my control arms. On the lucerne the control arm includes all the bushings including the ball joints. This did provide some improvement in the fact that large bumps in the road are not as pronounced but still noticeable. I do not think there are any quick struts available that honestly do provide the OEM feel of the suspension. You will probably be forced to either live with what you have or actually build up a pair of struts from exact OEM coils. As for removing and installing coils, Although it can be dangerous, It is only dangerous to those not taking some basic precautions. If you take your time and understand what you are doing you can replace the coils. Pay good attention though to the tool you purchase to compress the struts. If you really are not comfortable then just take all your components to a shop and have them do it for you. The way I view this is - I have the guts to crawl under my car while being held up with some jack stand to work on things so compressing a coil is no more dangerous than that.
@Faced1111Ай бұрын
This is my problem right now, i could rent a spring compressor or rather a few but tbh its hard for me to justify the cost of full nissan parts or even going with something like bilsteins and building them with the old springs then buying new bearings and mounts when it would cost nearly double than a monroe quick-strut....even buying monroe struts and rebuilding them with the nissan springs and mounts is still much more expensive. Im also at a loss of what to do.

I just picked up two, 5-quart containers of 0W16 Pennzoil Platinum full-synthetic oil for my 2024 Prius. I bought two of the containers so that I could complete 2 oil changes, since I already have 2 oil filters on hand in my garage, a stupid FRAM oil-filter and a Purolator oil-filter. Yeah, I know, FRAMs suck, but I've got it and its brand new. I will use the FRAM for my second oil change, the Purolator will be on there for my first oil change, since that's a higher quality filter.

Comments were turned off for the video about noise so here I am. I have a 95 blazer 4.3 v6 that is quiet when its cold but then a lifter noise starts ticking when its fully warmed up. Mostly on deceleration I can hear it echoing off the surrounding cars etc. Engine has 130k but runs great, just this ticking noise that bothers me. Any Ideas on what it could be? Exhaust leak maybe being its quiet till its warm?

How do you remedy the uneven ground factor? My yard is pretty uneven and have the same exact problem. Maybe bigger tires? Lower air pressure? There just isn't enough travel in the suspension.
@ericknoblauch9195Ай бұрын
I had that problem on a 2003 Impala LS. I was not even using Dexcool. I was using the old green coolant. The problem is the cheap plastic plenum. GM knew they had a problem with that engine and the plastic plenum. To correct the problem GM came out with the 3.8 V-6 Series III engine towards the end of the engine production run. The series III had a metal plenum. Also my plenum gaskets were leaking at 40,000 miles. My car was serviced every 3,000 miles, and the coolant changed every 24 000 miles. At 63,000 miles the temperature gauge started fluctuating by going up past the half way mark in heavy traffic, and would go back to normal when the car started moving. That cause was a external leak starting in the head gasket. The transmission started to go like they all do at 63,000 miles. I sold it, and bailed. Around the same time I bought the Impala LS, I also bought a Ford with the 3.9 V-6. The Ford I still have, and is going towards 200,000 miles with no drivetrain problems whatsoever. If Ford can build a V-6 engine with no gasket leaks than why can't GM do the same? I owned two Impalas, and they both had problem after problem. The gasket leaks were only one of them, and they happened on both cars.

Even thought this is 4 years old its a great video. Thank you very much. I have done some front end work but Im strictly DIY and in my drive way. What I do for ride height before tightening the control arm bushings is to stick a jack under the brake disk and jack it up until it comes a little bit off the jack stand. That way you know the whole weight of the vehicle is on the control arm and should be at ride height. Hopefully more videos to come. I have a lucerne (2008) and have some work to do before winter hits. Thank you.
