I'm 56 and used to listen to and watch them as a kid with my parents. My dad would be 105 and mom in her 90s. Im the pup of the litter. I had a great mix to listen to. I feel very fortunate for it.

What a great performance in that era. Every band member is so disciplined. How they bow their heads towards the audience after each performance is rare nowadays. And Count Basie is a great band leader. I can't stop watching this video. Thank you.

Absolutely spectacular - I particularly loved their version of "April in Paris" ( 24:34 ). Thank you for uploading this, Yurinickolaevich.

couldn't they say Count Basie Orchestra and you'd know he was there too? They'd look foolish calling themselves that without him!

This is the height of "swing" and shows how the top working musicians of a group like Basie ran (really the envy of many a band leader), have tremendous musicality, strength to play intense arrangements, play great jazz improv, and yet always leave you noticing the musicianship. If an arrangement has a SOFT section these guys really play it soft. If they have a loud section it's not CRASS, it's just powerful and super coherent, smack you in the face, but always working within the idea of the music.

My Father ❤“ God Bless “ him exposed us to some of the best music ever! Of course the Count was one of them! Always thought his Orchestra was the best ! We had the pleasure of seeing Duke Ellington in Atlantic City in the 60s . Fantastic! We were kids and we were just mesmerized!
