Huh? I put guitar solos on my new songs. Lorna Shore has solos. Thornhill’s Casanova has a solo. Polyphia is huge. The guitarists that get the most views of SM are doing solos. I don’t get this logic

You are talking about stupid mainstream music, nowadays top40 drivel. That's music for the stupids. There's enough great music out there, also with great solos.

Nice story, but it's junk food. No offense, but your take on Hip Hop and EDM is biased and dismissive af and it almost sounds like you're personally pissed or hurt by it. Like, I make prog rock and jazz fusion-y stuff, I have no business beating down other genres. Just cause something is not made with real instruments doesn't make it any less music or art. What about guys like Telefon Tel Aviv? Apen Twin? Also, you assume all their music is sampled. That's also absolutely false. Seriously, you seem like a genuine guy, but before having opinions on stuff you clearly lack knowledge of, educate yourself a little, because you seem too emotional and not objectively oriented.

Also, really?? TikTok brought out all these musicians?? What??? Guys like Plini, Owane, Polyphia, Intervals, AAL, Chon, among many other solo artists started in between 2008 and 2012, that's almost 10 years before your TikTokers. Maybe you should look into the movement they started, cause the premise that the pandemic and TikTok somehow saved guitar soloing is false.

Thanks for your insights. I produce digital music myself. I definitely don't think less of it, but it's true that I used to, way back when. But times change, and I do too.

There are tasteful solos that don't "wear out their welcome", so to speak. And there are boring solos that go on for waaaaay too long (à la Jerry Garcia), jazz noodling that only the snobbish fanboys enjoy (Holdsworth), rock shredding that says very little with a million notes (Malmstee), egomaniac solos that show off the master's technique and musical knowledge but are utterly forgettable and boring asf (Zzzzzzzzzzzapa). Butt hurt fanboys on the way to defend their hero 👇

You know, there's a lot of guitar, solos on the internet. And you know you have to look at in a different area. Just like you, I'm watching you on the internet. And the internet's pretty powerful. I got nothing against hip-hop and wrapping all that stuff, but it did take away from guitar. There's no doubt, but you know somebody that guitar can fit into that music too. If somebody made the effort to try and be creative. That's what I believe so you guys gotta think hard. How to be creative with different types of music and incorporate the guitar in it? That's all I have to say and thanks.

Bro you're too young. You should not be making videos about things you have no idea about. If you didn't live in that era you have no business saying that Prince and Neil Young we're in some of the biggest bands on the planets when you're talking about guitar solos dude lol guitar solos and songs left us in the late 80s. There are still shredders out there. But the biggest Band by far in the early 80s was Van Halen. And Eddie changed the game. Like and then you have guys like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai who were considered virtuosos back then and then you have all of the hair metal bands that were all really accomplished soloists. Lake George lynch, and Warren DiMartini, and Vito Bratta and so many others that I could go on and on but those are just a couple that I ripped off the top of my head. And sure David Gilmour is an awesome guitar player but he was by no means some kind of soloing god! He certainly wasn't a shredder. Stick to things that you know, like Ritalin and getting trophies just for showing up and loving Democrats😂😂

Analyze the violin; once the New comer mainstream instrument, filled with virtuosos and myths surrounding them like heroes. Then new technology came through and with it, the violin (along with academic/classical music) got replaced with newer instruments/genres. It is sad however, that it seems we are aiming for 100% digitally/artifically made music. I mean, sure, some of us musicians practice everyday but our job has been demoted to a "skilled hobbyist" at best. This is true especially if you live in latin america where people only listen to reggaeton

Grunge is pretty much the only genre that didn't play any, but grunge is pretty much dead and gone today. Jerry Cantrell was probably the closest to a guitar hero out of that whole genre, and he didn't really shredd . I hear tons of solos today though. Seems like just that one little hiccup in the early 90's. Thank God we had Dimebag, Chuck Shouldiner, (RIP) and Andreas Kisser leading the way back then.

it's because music industry became a shit show and you basicly don't need any talent to make it nowadays. you just need some good marketing....... producers who to be honest are doing like 80% of the job and should get the lions share of the glory are somehow less known than some talentless idiots that need a ton of autotune just to not sound like shit and even then they won't perform live because they are not able to so they use backing track and somehow people are listening to that crap. fuck that shit. give me back my 70's and 80's man. I'm gonna rip some crazy good songs on my flying v now. have a great day guys!

In all its history there are very few great solos like in "Stairway to Heaven," "Comfortably Numb," and "Hotel California." Most solos just ruin the flow of the song and sound like they did them because it was a mandatory cliche.

This gives me a sigh of relief. The absence of physical instruments has many detrimental effects. Less people knowing how to actually play instruments instead of having a machine do it for them. There's no band on stage for a performance. There's way more emotion and personality with a human playing each instrument. There's no memorabilia like pics or drumsticks. Good things take time and energy. There's nothing like a real band.
