A 12ga shell will not fit in a 3/4 nipple. Interested folks will need to overcome that problem.

Good idea but you just built a firearm. Federally illegal. I too built a similar trap and wanted to know if it was legal. I called Firearms @Tobacco and talked with an agent there. He also was plagued with moles and applauded my possible solution. There was a “But” involved! It is technically manufacturing a firearm and is prohibited by federal law. And, even though the person sharing this is very careful, I can’t even imagine the liability incurred. I am not a grinch trying to steal anybody’s thunder. Just sharing a genuine personal experience. A citizen can construct their own firearm in Missouri (which is otherwise legal) for their own use, without a requirement that a serial number be imprinted on the firearm.

Local and state ordinances and laws can differ, and what's legal in some states may not be legal in others. But federally, making your own firearm for your own use is legal. Note: this does NOT include making “machineguns” or any other Title II or NFA weapons.

Just don't live in a stupid state like California, Illinois etc. I live on 20 acres in Missouri with no neighbors. Mine are almost finished being built!!!

I'm having a hell of a time getting my hole in the pipe cap to line up center on the primer. I keep striking near the outside edge. Any tips on how to drill the hole in the cap to ensure it lines up with the primer on the shell?

This fits the legal definition of a booby trap even though it's targeting pests and not people. Also not cool to the animals and surrounding soil.

Most of my mole mounds are in the yard near my bedroom, I think that going off at 3am might freak me out. I assume moles can't tell or don't care what time it is? Nice device!
