I think copying style is fine as long as you realize it is not the end game. You can learn a lot and take bits and pieces from different inspirations (as does everyone). But maybe buying sunglasses is a bit too far ;)
@jdknightingale3 күн бұрын
Thanks for this. Agreed, I definitely need to find my own style in the end. Thanks for the feedback about the sunglasses! I never bought them, as it was mean to be a bit of fun, but I rewatched and probably didn't come across that way! 😃 Went a bit overboard!
@lourensed3 күн бұрын
@@jdknightingale Yeah dude don't worry about it. I saw these two overly critical comments and thought I'd provide some balance. You know, challenge yourself and make a video in the style of someone else now! Maybe someone like Max Joseph?

@@lourensed Really appreciate that. Might give that a go! Thanks!

It's really weird to thank someone for the creativity they bring and then straight up copy their style and buy similar sunglasses, it's called fan behaviour and trust me, nobody likes "fans", you won't find your style by copying others.

You a right. But as I’m at an early stage, my plan is to copy a few of my favourite creators and then find my own style through that process!

I have to agree. IMO, it's a general misconception that we must not be 'sad' or 'feel down'; however, it's part of our life, and without these feelings, it would be harder to appreciate the 'good.' Hope that makes sense. Just a small feedback if it's okay: the music is a bit loud in the second part of the video.
@jdknightingale7 күн бұрын
I completely agree with both. I was re-watching earlier and thought the same about the music. I decided not to change it, as I'm trying to avoid being a perfectionist! Will be something I keep an eye out for in the next one.

The widescreen monitor and the MX Master can definitely increase comfort. I've replaced my 1st gen MX Master with a 3S, but honestly, I never used the side scroll and the buttons, and they're in a weird position on the new one. Anyway, informative video and great quality, just like the others. Keep it up!

Hey how much CAD or solid works is used throughout the course ?
@jdknightingale2 ай бұрын
Quite a lot. You will use Solidworks in all your individual/group projects. However keep in mind that in a group project, you usually give one (maybe two) people responsibility for the CAD work. You can also pick modules that help develop your CAD skills.

Thank you for your insides into note taking. Maybe one idea for the action log: - an additional column for "Last Change" (date) for a quicker way to filter new additions As for the distribution of the log: Perhaps provide both an excel (for convenience) and a pdf (for documentation). I found having a fixed version of MoM/action logs can be a real saviour in the long run (and for vacation substitutes)

If you listen to Campbell there's no hope like Bob Hope for you total idiots and remember conservative has told the British taxpayer for 14 years again you got the Labour leader he used to be the Justice minister Jimmy Savile get away with a hell of a lot of things and the BBC not in the public interest his favourite word. Liberal Democrats who brought in bedroom tax when they was with the conservators in Coalition labour stop nurses being trains in the UK. You had Thatcher sale of all social housing because she didn't want councils coming to her for government funding to repair them Tony Blair opening the Floodgates and the list goes on I can tell you who to vote for if you got any sense vote for reform you'll be quite surprised. What position I hold in the UK. But I'm definitely voting reform we've had enough in the office. Labour Mayor of London. Who is totally ruined London. And the Labour leader who used to be in charge of the justice department when Jimmy Savile was up to no good with the BBC. But it was not in the public interest as he said even though he had statements and lotto proof they was up to no good. Do you really want these people in charge of your country. Use your head listen to what Nigel Farage is saying I didn't like him at first but when you do the Maths he is spot on and he's telling the truth hurts me to say. I will be voting for reform.

I live in France and work as a teacher i.e. in the "Fonction Publique" : relatively easy to take sick days. I was often under the weather this year. I had a lot of stressful situations to deal with ; twice as much work this year ==> less sleep/binging on junk food, which has lead my immune system to be less than operational. At least I hope this is the explanation. I vary on what to do. My principal is pretty cool and I can call in sick and have some of the missed hours put in a different timeslot. Case in point, I spent this weekend ill and in bed. I managed to teach today, but wasn't the usual efficient teacher I am. I don't know ; I haven't been really ill this year, just under the weather, enough to feel really terrible, but no visible symptoms (and my doctor needs me to be on my deathbed in order to give me a leave of absence document/authorisation). All this long ramble to say that it depends for me, sometims I power through, sometimes I don't. My principal is cool so I can call in sick and not be in trouble, but with different principals I wouldn't dare do that. Very nice video in any case, liked how you edited the video to fit your story telling and how unpretentious your style is.

Thank you for sharing! It's always interesting to hear different people's perspective. I think we can also be quite impatient with ourselves when we are sick. I know I often think I will recover immediately and then if it takes slightly longer than expected I feel disappointed in myself! Maybe we need to be more patient with ourselves! Anyway, I appreciate your kind words.

Not sure if this is a thing in other countries but in the US we only get two weeks off of work a year. If we take a week off to get better from illness then that's 50% of your vacation you just used.
@jdknightingale7 ай бұрын
That’s really interesting. I can’t comment on other industries or companies but we don’t take ‘vacation time’ for a sick day. Instead you usually get an allowance of sick days I.e full pay for a few (possibly 5-10) days and then after this number of days it might drop to 50% pay. I’m not familiar with the US and sick days.
@sephmne36457 ай бұрын
This is quite interesting. I'm actually just recovering from surgery and despite being told to take 2 weeks off from work, I've worked from my bed the entire time with the logic that "it's a physical wound and I'm still in bed so what's the difference?". Now I'm starting to think I should take some time off to recover 😅
@jdknightingale7 ай бұрын
That is a bit of a dilemma. I should preface what I am about to write with, I am not a doctor, so definitely prioritise what your doctor has suggested. In the main article I reference it quotes a study that suggests that non-contagious and not over debilitating illnesses/injuries are ok to work with. See the exert: 'When illness is neither overly debilitating nor contagious, there is some evidence that the benefits of going to work for employees might outweigh the costs. This view is supported by a study of over 2000 individuals affected by chronic occupational musculoskeletal disorders conducted by Howard and colleagues (2009). Employees who were designated ‘presentees’ were more likely to complete a functional restorative treatment programme and return to work full-time than those who took more sick leave. Working while sick might also be seen as an example of organisational citizenship behaviour and a sign of commitment and loyalty to the organisation.' Obviously it totally depends on what your surgery was, and how drained you feel. My advice would be, if you are allowed to have 2 weeks fully off, and you won't go mad with the time off, it will likely help! Hope this helps and you recover quickly!

If you go to work when sick, you are spreading the disease to your coworkers, it is rude.

Interesting you feel your productivity has increased. I'm pretty flexible (too flexible, really!) with my PhD, so maybe I should experiment with an unofficial four day week. I might struggle with the discipline though. So far I've basically just worked when I feel like it and not when I don't. But that can be a little dangerous in both directions.

It depends on the working pattern of the uni. Do they expect you to be available on every working day? If not, defo give it a go as it condenses your working time and so you kind of have to concentrate better and be more efficient with your time. Plus a day off is good for you!💪

Good to hear! Tbf I’m still settling into some new projects and being reminded of some of the stuff I talk about in this video. Super helpful video! I'm not a project manager myself, but I have great appreciation for the value that they add. The first time I was part of a project that was being run by a PMP, it was game changing. It seemed so simple. They would identify a task (or "action item" for additional gravitas) and a target date, and then came the kicker. They'd ask, "Who is going to take that one?" while glancing around at all of us. That first time, the sound of crickets was deafening. (Yes, I was one of the crickets.) Fortunately, they didn't give up on us (nor did our managers) and stuff started getting done. Wow that was quite the ramble. Thanks for making that video and much success to you!
