What is up with all of these mean comments?! I've been taking lessons for around a year now; I train 2-3 times a week. Taking the "Level 4" class at my Aerial Studio currently; I'd say I'm upper beginner level. I knew many but not all of the tricks in the video. I'd say, this would be a little above my level. > 5 minutes in the air, synchronous with others, and looking graceful throughout is definitely not something you can do after 4 to 5 days or after a standard "Beginner 2" class - unless perhaps you have a very strong circus/acrobatics background.

There is a studio by me that has classes for aerial silks, pole dancing, and bungee (plus a few others) and I plan to try a class each for aerial and pole just to see which I prefer. I have pretty bad ADHD and am not the best at following classes and choreographed stuff but hoping I'll be able to do one of these because they both look fun. Nice to have a video of a class to watch before I do instead of just seeing pros do it.

And it takes time to build up the strength and stamina just to be able to climb or do a roll from a foot lock or even to tie a foot lock in the air. That doesn’t come fast for most people. Took me until my second set of 6 weeks to get to that point confidently.
@melissamw19706 жыл бұрын
I think it’s crazy you all think this is beginner stuff-my instructors spent 3 of the 6 weeks of beginner class just teaching us how to tie a single foot lock and did truly beginner moves from that. They make us take level 1 over until they feel we are proficient enough to move up to level 2, which is still beginner. Stuff like this isn’t taught until level 3 or 4...although many students have never touched silks when they started. So seriously this is intermediate I think. Because most people can’t learn this stuff with proper form after a couple weeks.

Sorry this stuff is not intermediate. I did silks this past summer and I could do all of this within 4 days if not 3

Increase your strength until you can get to a class. You’ll have to hold your body weight for several minutes at a time so it will be good to come into with some strength. Also, it is dangerous but driving is even more dangerous, which just means humans are badasses. You go be awesome.

I think it is mostly because women are often seen as more gracious and elegant than men. But men are the one who are not going to have a hard time, since those kind of performances require a lot of upper body strengh, someting in wich female in general lack of. In my class (we were something around 14 people) only 2 people were chosen for a show and that included myself (only because I already had a good strengh in the arms ) and a guy who was a lot younger than me but his strengh was proprably 3 times mine.

You obviously don't know much about Ariel dance because you don't just go and look for good moves. You start with the basic moves winch will help you with moves like this. I recommend foot knots, any type of climb( Russian or basic), and dancers knots. After that learn hip key and ankle hang then you can move on to harder things. Especially since you have only done Ariel for two months.

Cool! I do silks, and so I wanted to watch this to find out a lot of good moves. I started 2 months ago, so I'm not very good.

Hi I will be starting this in September. I am 18 and have no background in dance or gymnastics. The class I'm in focuses mostly on muscle building, flexibility, conditioning and then circus training ad acrobatics. Any advice? I hope I'll be okay.

Yeah, not very advanced moves. The levels they taught at the time were just broken into Beginner and Intermediate. The company's main focus is their own performances. At comprehensive aerials and circus schools, this is definitely Beginner 2. Still fun stuff, though!

Sorry for the late response...I have no gymnastics or dance background at all! I'm pretty clumsy. My friend and I compare our clumsiness. It helps you learn balance and awareness of space. It's pretty amazing. I believe that anyone can do it...just stay positive and have fun. You'll amaze yourself! :)

No problem! Well I'm 13 now, and for a while when I was younger I did gymnastics (like every little girl does) nothing serious at all, I'd just run around in a leotard. Then I took about two years off, and then I started up circus. I do circus about four hours a week now (triple trapeze, spanish web, and acrobatics). They have levels I-III, and I'm in level II right now, so intermediate? I have a video of my team performing on my channel. Feel free to message me if you have other questions!
@smalltownescape12 жыл бұрын
thanks for the help!! if you don't mind me asking, what was your fitness background before starting and what is your level now??
@GabbyZonneveld12 жыл бұрын
Not at all. I'd say it's definitely going to be more challenging for you than for your sister, but from the looks of this "intermediate" level, you'll do just fine. I mean, there are no drops in this. As soon as you start doing drops, that's when you'll really start feeling it. For me, it's just the endurance factor. This is a five minute routine of constantly holding yourself up, and it's a lot of core and upper body. You're going to find that you'll get leaner muscles.
@smalltownescape12 жыл бұрын
did you have any sort of gymnastics/dancing background before starting these lessons? my sister wants me to take lessons with her, and she's pretty physically fit but i'm, well, not. Also, both of us are seriously clumsy. I'm worried this is going to be WAY out of my league and maybe hers, too.
@mumsawas12 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I *highly* recommend going to Open Studios to practice what you've learned. That will help with strength, endurance, muscle memory, as well as cognitive awareness of what your body is doing.
@mumsawas12 жыл бұрын
..moves. You'll practice them and get them down really well. Then you can add grace into it. They focus on teaching proper technique, telling a bit about the muscle groups you need to focus on. I really like both BLL and Sky Candy. Since I started out at BLL, I feel like I understand more about adding grace (with their ballet backgrounds), yet I feel like I've been able to learn more moves quickly through Sky Candy (since I'm beyond beginner, it's easier to learn quickly). Hope that helps!
@mumsawas12 жыл бұрын
Hi Alaina! Sorry for the delayed response..I don't check this very often! It's good to hear that you're taking classes at Sky Candy. I hope that the class went well. The Blue Lapis Light classes are wonderful. I have no dance background, so I started out really ungraceful. The BLL teachers are trained in ballet, so they incorporate ballet type stretches in the warm ups (nothing to difficult). It helps out with the silks as well as grace and coordination. They focus on teaching specific..

@Aircat100 Awesome! I remember you dropping in for a workshop a few years ago. I usually go to Winter Park in the wintertime, and always think of dropping in Denver to take a lesson. If it weren't for the sometimes sketchy pass/switchbacks and the drive...one of these days. Even though it was a few years ago, I enjoyed that workshop! :)
