What do you mean, what was wrong with 1127 and why was it out of service? Didn’t hear about anything wrong with it and why it would’ve been out of service. 🤔 1127 will be rebuilt in rochester soon though. Don’t get me wrong, whatever it was out of service for, I’m happy it’s back in service now.

1127 didn’t need to be repaired thinking it’ll go for rebuild at rochester soon. The rebuild will include an all-new generator and HEP equipment among many other major component fixes or overhauls.

Head up: Two more freshly rebuilt geeps in service: 1117 and 1129 both just entered service. Just heard that 1134 is now in rochester for rebuild and that will give it new led headlights, a e-bell, a fresh new lighting bolt paint job with plenty of purple and a new horn among many other major component overhauls or fixes much of which had deteriorated and experienced rusting over the past 17 years. 1127 is officially the last non-rebuilt gp40 in revenue service with its original steel mechanical bell. 1136 has it but it’s painted blue and already rebuilt because it’s partly owned by massdot. Also heard yesterday that rochester will release 1118 in mid november in the lightning bolt paint scheme like 1117 and 1138, but unlike 1129 in its dark red cranberry/maroon paint because it’s MBTA’s first HERITAGE UNIT. 1128 is “off property” being rebuilt at altoona works in pennsylvania and should be returned to boston in mid-january. 1120, 1125, 1136 and 1137 are massdot units, but can be operated in mbta service). 1118, 1130, 1131 and 1132 are in or awaiting major engine repairs at rochester. Since the mpi program has now been expanded, there will be no additional in-house overhauls of f40ph-2cs/f40phm-2cs. keolis will instead perform major engine repairs on gp40mcs as required. Units completed or in-shop: 1115, 1116, 1119-BET, 1120, 1121, 1123, 1124, 1126, 1133, 1135-BET and 1139.

OMG I love 1822’s horn. 😊 It’s a blessing to listen to. I could listen to it all day. The Rotems sure have loud horns. 😮🤮 Good old K3HL. 👍👍 Or is it a K5LA? I’m not sure what type of horns the Rotems have.
@F40-RULES2 ай бұрын
Rotems all have K3H’s. Some are choked while others are not.
@ericschwartz35592 ай бұрын
What does it mean when horns are chocked? Sorry I’m confused and don’t know what it means.
@F40-RULES2 ай бұрын
K3H's. Some are choked or restricted while others are not. Choke is a piece of tool that goes into a horn to restrict airflow that reflects how loud or quiet it is. Sometimes a horn's bell may not work. Each piece of the horn that sticks out has a bell. Usually at least 3. Sometimes more such as 5 for example. I cannot explain it better than this.

@F40-RULES2 ай бұрын
It’s not new. It’s the same horn that’s choked really badly.
@ericschwartz35592 ай бұрын
Ohh it must’ve been completely cleaned out and deeply polished so it looks and sounds new. Sorry I didn’t know 1129 still has its original horn, my bad. 😂😢 1129’s horn doesn’t choke really bad anymore, it sounds better nowadays than it did before rebuild and before it became a HERITAGE UNIT.
@F40-RULES2 ай бұрын
Yup the horn was completely cleaned out, but they put a choke on it. I saw it on the flyer when it sounded a bit louder which had its original.
@ericschwartz35592 ай бұрын
Hold on why when you saw it on the flyer did it have a slightly louder horn and had the original and it was already rebuilt, but in revenue service the horn sounds different? I don’t understand, sorry man. Also, why is it the same horn? But chocked really badly?
@F40-RULES2 ай бұрын
It’s the same one. They cleaned it out and put a choke in it so that it restricts the amount of air that the horn gets. The less air, the quieter it is. The more air, the louder. All chokes are different. I cannot explain in better details.
