One can have a great sense of humor while not enjoying certain types of humor. I don’t really enjoy insult humor or extreme shock humor (insult humor can be pretty hateful) and I think the type of humor that someone enjoys can say a lot about a person. I don’t choose to watch Matt’s shows after watching a couple sets on KZbin but have noticed the controversy surrounding him, which led me to watch some of the videos critical of him. It isn’t my style of humor but there is a bad “feel” to this one joke, especially with the delivery. I can see why people would want to say something about it as it is quite dismissive in regard to women involved in domestic abuse, purposefully devoid of empathy, as the joke would warrant. I personally would call this low brow humor and I think it is revealing of how Matt Rife thinks. Tho he probably used his looks to draw women originally, perhaps Matt came to resent too much attention from women. That could happen. I could imagine it happening with a woman comedian who used her looks provocatively to start her career to then realize her audience were a bunch of over sexed Neanderthals. I can understand how too much of the wrong attention could annoy a person. Anyway, his behavior looks like a little boy who played the girls too hard, later realizing too much of a good thing is actually bad for him, who then retaliates like a 12 year old with low brow humor, insults, and exclamations of “Go away! You have cooties!” He basically is using Jordan Peterson to help him gain more of a male audience. They are playing into the controversy. Face it. He is trying to eliminate some of his female audience while promoting himself to men, period. His humor includes a lot of misogynistic humor. This is Matt Rife. I do think that this particular joke came off horribly, especially when you listen to how he delivered that last sentence. I notice subtleties, nuance in people’s voices and micro expressions and it just came across as cruel and cold. If people want that kind of humor, go for it. I am not interested. Domestic abuse is a serious subject and it is just this kind of humor that can encourage that behavior from certain men who trivialize the suffering of women as they live in half brains devoid of empathy. Ok, free speech, sure, but there are consequences to one’s actions and words. Some men may laugh and take this joke as a stamp of approval to beat the hell out of their wives. Dark humor, I get it, yea yea. As for Jordan Peterson, he may be good at debate, eloquent, and intelligent in some areas, but he only uses supporting evidence for his points. He manages to ignore and leave out ranges of important facts and information that easily reveal that he is not the all knowing expert his followers make him out to be. A real debater could take him, especially when armed with the facts and skill of the debate. I have noticed holes in his arguments. Like an illusionist, he makes you look at the rocks piled on one side of the quarry, while ignoring all the rocks, the lake, and the equipment of the entire quarry which would immediately show he left out a lot to convince you of something which was in fact faulty and incorrect.
