Bad call for that to be considered an infield fly call in my mind, rule says With Ordinary Effort. It’s a live ball so runner going to second is out also.

I think the infield fly rule is the most misunderstood rules of baseball. Infield fly rule or not. That runner is out sliding into second. Then out again after he steps off to go toward the dugout. The batter is out because the IFR was called. Umpire kind of blew that one.

It's a hybrid stance. The only problem here is if you pause it at 0:01 then jump to 0:42, his stance looks exactly the same. One got called and the other didn't get called an illegal pitch.

No infield fly because the fielder didn’t have ordinary effort to make the play! The fielder must be under the ball at the peak of the baseball in the air for it to be infield fly rule. If the umpire did call it than the baseball would be out because he can run at his own risk.

this type of play is why i RARELY go into the "C" position in high school baseball (unless my supervisor requires it). with a runner on 2nd base, or runners at 2nd and 3rd, the overwhelming odds are that the closest play is still going to be at 1st base. if you are in "B" position, you can still make tag calls at 3rd base (angle over distance); and certainly easier than you can make bang-bang' calls at 1st base from a "C" position, especially since this umpire drifted toward 3rd and did not recover toward the "magic spot" (directly behind the pitcher's mound). plus, if i start in "C" position, i'm usually going to be asked to move one way or the other by the shortstop or the runner at 2nd. in "B" position, no one asks. finally, if anyone really cares, i can list about fourteen different plays/scenarios where, with runners on 2nd or 2nd & 3rd, the "B" position would be favorable over the "C" position. still waiting for someone to really justify the "C" position.

The guy is like 6'10" weighing 240lb playing against a bunch of little 5'9" kids weighing 140lbs - no Darryl Dawkins here who was doing that against Kareem, Lanier, Malone, Gilmore et al....

Wouldn't have called infield fly but they did so Batter/runner and as is R1 on the tag at 2nd.
