There is a copy with much better audio on the internet archive, I will reply again with a link, but in case it gets caught in the spam filter, the title is "Noam Chomsky - 1976-05-11 - Anarchism - BBC Interview" on the the archive so you can google for that

Chomsky is disingenuous here: Professing an objective critique of mainly the States, with endless examples to demonstrate the disparity between ‘noble intentions’ and so called ‘real’ and hidden intentions - it’s hard to know his intentions, here and what he wants; it becomes an onslaught of varied facts from varied circumstances in different times, that can’t really be countered here; his aim is unclear - but there is one and he holds many assumptions - not stated. There is a type of academic talking down to, a sense of superiority - a fervour - and this is only found today in two circles: Religion and Marxism. And their aim is to convert their audience into true-believers and followers.

It's astonishing that he developed this amply documented and substantial conception of american political economy at aged 42 having already revolutioinised linguistics. I dont even say its true. But simply to have a plausible, integrated and substantial conception of the sweep of US post war policy is quite breath taking. Especially so given that there was no help from mainstream US intellectual culture, for whom this conception is utterly incomprehensible

All criticism of him fails, he criticizes everyone, including himself, which is something we should all do. I was, or you can say, am, a follower of Hitchens but Chomsky have shown me that after 9/11 he just became another US puppeteer.

Nobody wants hear this stuff and good luck discussing it with anyone but I have for sum time now sought the information Chomsky claims is readily available to our society as a unbelievable is that is. The records are extensive. And just a side note. U know he discusses the media bias and one day while talking with my brother who broadcast the news from a untamed city. As a news caster I ask him how he knew what he was saying was true. Now this is my brother and a good guy. But he told me out without skipping and beat that it's true because he's saying it. Funny huh

Chomsky talks about putting things in "context" & then blows off the Soviets ( Khrushchev ) for putting missiles in Cuba as "criminally insane" w / o providing "context". Ok ?! Maybe he didn't have time ... but Nikita Khrushchev was defending an Ally against the United States' aggression ... of which Chomsky never stops speaking about ... elsewhere ... No Matter ! He should have followed his own advice on the crucial matter of context. Like a lot of intellectuals, even Egalitarians, they unconsciously absolve themselves of their own Standards-of- Procedures. The more we listen to Chomsky, the better our observations of his inconsistencies.

Tom Wolf is a perfect example of exactly what Noam is describing. When a person is convinced that what they know &/or believe is what's right they can not have any rational conversation that involves anything that isn't in agreement with that. A convinced person is not only a fool by choice, they become belligerent. How can anyone chose to be ignorant? How and why do people choose to not look for the facts that are at our fingertips via the internet?

I love Chomsky's opening argument that classical liberalism has lead him to become a type of anarchist and socialist. Completely 100% logical. No wonder he was banned from every major news outlet in the USA. If monarchy states were the dominant concentration of power that classical liberals theorized against and fought against, and our current concentrated power is unaccountable corporate tyranny who monopolize not merely wealth but the levers of the state. Then an honest classical liberal today would be an Anarchist Socialist.

What stops free associations from developing hierarchical power structures?
@matthewkopp2391
@matthewkopp2391 3 жыл бұрын
Frank Manning There would be a different type of hierarchy and perhaps a different set of problems to address in that regard. The general rule is that power is not taken but given. So for example in a work setting it would be the employees themselves electing their own managers. A manager in this situation would less likely be a tyrant as they are chosen by the group and accountable to the group. If a person aspires to that position they in the very least will need to understand how to be of service to the workers concerns.
