Thanks for posting this. This is what I reference for secrets I can't find because almost none of the maps are documented on the Doom wiki. Appreciate that it's in 4K as well. Map 11 is busting my balls. Even when you know the map well, some fights / areas are still really hard.

Awesome TAS! Even doing just 60s must have been a huge amount of work, I understand why you'd abandon this. But thanks for sharing the progress you made

I appreciate your feedback! The amount of work was not that big. I took zoomed-in screenshots of the entire map and drew a theoretical route of where to go, what items to take and when to kill which monsters. The realisation of the route satisfied my predictions. There are three reasons why I abandoned it. 1. The replay file doesn't store the flag which fixes the behaviour of bullets when the player moves very far away from its origin position ("Fix clipping problems on large maps"). This highly affects the speedrunning of central and eastern lands of the map because it would require a lot of bruteforcing due to unpredictable impact of bullet weapons and berserk. 2. I lost interest in TASing Doom by that point. 3. The fan-base of those who like to watch Doom TASes is quite humble. I was reflexing on the amount of feedback I would get if I surpassed all this and TASed the whole map, and I concluded that it would just not worth it. So I just stopped at my current progress. At first, I planned to delete it, but then I thought about our successors and decided to publish it as is. Maybe it will influence somebody to continue my work or at least join Doom TASing community.

Certain people can hate on this version in modern times all they way, but it's still dang impressive seeing this on a SNES. And it's only going to get better with the recent announcement of Doom Definitive Edition coming to the system soon. :D

I remember this the snes version of doom when i was in elementary school, this game was actually pretty hard, i made it to e3m6 on nightmare difficulty and the game was actually scary to me. Pc version is a piece of cake

Hey how did you find that other costume for casey ? the masked one ? And also I saw that some players have orange color and black color slashuur outfits. How can i get that ?

The footage with Casey wearing a mask was borrowed from a walkthrough I found on the net. Regarding Slashuur, I have no idea how to get them. I didn't find any excessive lists of cheat codes to try different outfits.

I usually associate this with e3m2 for some reason, I think it might be because I have a wad somewhere I made with a friend that replaces e3m2s song with the title song and I loaded it up with freedoom one time and forgot about that modification

A lot of the old freedoom music seems to sound similar like this one, using instrument 30 (the "overdriven guitar") as the main instrument and having a quieter section later on. I wonder why? (Some examples are: 0.7 map27, 0.7 e1m6, 0.7 e1m7, 0.7 e2m1, and 0.7 e2m2. It becomes even more apparent if you use opl)

The statement "Freedoom is Doom, but free" didn't come on its own in the first place. Overdriven guitar became very popular, thanks to Doom. That E1M1 Hangar music strongly impacted fan-made soundtrack throughout the time. The tracks you've enlisted are all composed by the same person: Adam Kalmbach (jute). That's why such a pattern is followed. And I assume, the objective was "it should sound like Doom". You mean, the history of enemy sprites? Well, it makes sense to download all known Freedoom versions, extract sprites from each WAD and compare them. In case of possible plagiarism in early versions, you can use Google search for pictures to find similar ones and look at their descriptions, hoping that one will have the information about the origin that would be not Freedoom, but something else. There is also an official Discord channel where people may, at least, consult on this question, or even collect info, if it's easy to find it.

@@_thresh_ Which version it is? The version used in the video is 0.19.7, which came out like 2 years ago. If you press F5, your HUD will change. On old versions some HUD variations have level statistics.

Is the map you play at minute 43:40 or so a secret map?

Yes, it's a secret map. To play it, you need to perform a jump from the specific platform (42:56) in the room with multiple teleports and enter a special teleport nearby. Just repeat what I do in the video. Normal exit is shown on 42:13. Touch the devil wall and it takes you to E5M7.

It can be quite interesting to look back at older versions of projects like this to see how they evolved over time, such as how this level used to be a copy of map01 from phase 2 in version 0.7 and also how there were just a bunch of 3d renders for the intermissions and end screens (except that the first episodes end screen is just a screenshot of the text in 0.7)

The level this played on (map31) had way too many dark soldiers or whoever those dudes are at the start, and the "door" at the end was annoying. But it was cool that there is a run-down recreation of map01 that to my knowledge can only be accessed with IDCLIP.
