Hi. I just returned to college and I decided to become an Informatics Specialist. One of my classes requires that I interview someone who is already in the field. I would need 20 minutes of someone's time virtually or on paper. I'm having a hard time finding someone to interview and I would be very thankful.
You have such a professional attitude and a calming voice. Thanks for the great information.

Some roles in the health informatics field include: business intelligence analyst, systems analyst, reporting analyst and/or clinical analyst. If you are looking for comparable job descriptions, one tip I have is to search on LinkedIn Jobs or Indeed: "SQL" + "Healthcare" or "Power BI" + "Healthcare" to get a sense of the job roles and see if this is of interest to you. If you look at this career map from AHIMA my.ahima.org/careermap, the Informatics and Data Analytics sections would be relevant to you.

I have my BS in Heathcsre Administration and have been working as a financial analyst for 3 years and now heavily considering my masters in health informatics. I am worried about having a lack of clinical/medical terminology under my belt, also I’m not huge into math either.. do you think I would be okay in my classes?
@healthanalyticinsights4 ай бұрын
Hello, I work in health informatics but my degrees are in biomedical engineering so I wouldn't be able to comment on the course material for a master's in health informatics. However, I think that since you have prior experience working as a financial analyst you probably have a good grasp on technical tools such as Excel and Power BI so this should help you with the technical aspect. In terms of the clinical terminology there are several resources online here is a free resource here: www.healthit.gov/topic/health-it-resources/health-it-curriculum-resources-educators but you should be able to pick it up during your class, good luck!

Hello, are you looking to go into the area of healthcare analytics? If so, health informatics would be a good degree to study. Some roles in this field include a Clinical Analyst, Reporting Analyst and/or Clinical Data Analyst. I got started by learning data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and SQL. I have created a video that goes into more detail here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZSriI1ul8hor8U&lc=Ugy39KtH-kk-RDOGRx94AaABAg

Could you please advise should i take MBA Healthcare or MHA Health Administration or MHI Health Informatics course. @healthanalyticinsights5 ай бұрын
It depends on the career you are hoping to work towards. If you are interested in being a healthcare data analyst, or similar, an MHI Health Informatics course would be preferable, if you are looking to go into healthcare management roles then an MBA or MHA in health administration might be a better fit

If you were a healthcare provider, what would your path be to transition to healthcare informatics? Is a formal degree required?
@healthanalyticinsights6 ай бұрын
Hello Jon if I were a healthcare provider I would see if my healthcare organization has a business intelligence or clinical decision support department and see if I could job shadow to understand any technical skill gaps and then pivot into this industry. I would also learn SQL and a data visualization tool such as Power BI and lean on my network to understand if there are any available opportunities before seeking out a degree. If I wanted to work on the clinical side of health informatics and I was currently working as a nurse I would try to get additional training on EHR systems, become a super-user and apply for a role as an EHR Analyst or Application Analyst, focusing on improving clinical workflow within my organization.
@jon12685 ай бұрын
Are there courses I could take to get a feel for the career path and add to my resume prior to jumping in to a masters degree?
@healthanalyticinsights5 ай бұрын
@@jon1268 Hi Jon, I have developed a course where I walk you through building a Hospital KPI dashboard by providing you with a fake clinical dataset. In this course, I walk you through how to develop your Power BI skills and write SQL queries. You can learn more about the course here: healthanalyticinsights.com/?page_id=1195

Hello, I have been working as a service desk analyst at a hospital for the past 10 years and over the years I have had exposure to all the EMR systems such as Epic and all other clinical applications. I've just recently come across this field because I wanted to advance into something different but still connected with Information technology...Do you think this would be a good field to get into since I am already working in a hospital setting and I have found an online masters in healthcare informatics program that I'm going to inquire about. Would that open up more opportunities for me?
