We agree that 360 degree fittings/clamps are the best practice solution, and we even acknowledge them in the webinar at multiple points (the EMC Fitting at the motor junction box, the fixed Shield Clamp on EMC rail, and the Spring Shield Clamp on the same rail). Our intention with showing how to make a pigtail was to demonstrate the most effective way to utilize one, as the difference between a well-made pigtail and a poorly made one can be significant. This way when the decision is made to utilize a pigtail rather than a shield clamp of some kind, the noise issues can be held to a minimum. But you are correct, a 360 degree termination of the shield will always be the most effective method for mitigating noise. The most common problem is to make sure the Time Synchronization is enabled in the Logix controller under Controller Properties --> Date/Time. OR Check that the controller you are troubleshooting is the only one controlling the device encoder
