When I hit the oculus button, choose Desktop, and pin the desktop, then hit the oculus button again, I can see the virtual desktop in the headset in GS, but It doesn’t show up on the PC monitor in the GS view, therefore OBS won’t record GS with the virtual desktop floating in GS workspace. Is there a way to make GS show the virtual desktop to the outside world or is it strictly limited to the in-headset view? Thanks so much for your video. It worked great for me.

From your pov while your wearing the headset can you see your environment while sculpting ? Is there any way to do this ? Or are we stuck with the environments gravity sketch provides

Say in order to 3D print you had to start of with solid cubes or other primitives and edit those, rather than sketch out an object and close it in? Thanks Laurie

I've done similar modeling in Blender, which is much easier and more powerful than Gravity Sketch because Blender actually has organic sculpting tools that go way beyond anything GS can do, and the points are easier to manipulate. I would never choose Solidworks or any other CAD program for this kind of work. The only thing VR does is make it stereoscopic, but that's mostly just a gimmick and Blender supports VR through plugins now anyway.

Can gravity sketch output stl files? I’d love to see a more in depth look at all the steps in the process
@LilBigfootOverlanding3 жыл бұрын
No but you can export out of Gravity Sketch as OBJ and convert it to STL with Blender
@FlameRat_YehLon3 жыл бұрын
It exports OBJ. Most slicer accepts OBJ so you should be fine, and for those that doesn't, it's not hard to convert it.

I designed figurines in Blender with the intention for 3D printing before. I'm not good at sculpting so everything is done using subd. (Well, I did use sculpting on low poly model to help shaping the model a bit, though.) And I usually aren't bothered painting or sanding them at all, instead I just have every detail in 3D so that they are done right after printing. Did use alcohol marker before, though, the colour is a bit faint but the result is, well, passable. I'm definitely looking into using VR for doing future 3D print figurines, though, since I have proper VR now, and this video is actually the first video that does proper subd model for 3D print that I've come across, and I guess I've fully understand the workflow here now. I do hope that GS would have some actual sculpting tool soon, though, as vertex count could get high quick, but when think of it, with proper 3D control those might not be necessary at all.

Hi, you should definitely check out Adobe Medium, a scultping tool in VR.

@@Sander.3D well... I don't have any Oculus devices, and I have no Facebook account (I come from mainland China where it's both blocked and obsolete and I don't like platforms that strictly require my personal information to go public anyway). I'm out of luck there until Adobe make the app no longer an Oculus exclusive. For the time being I've purchased Kodon but haven't tried that yet.
@Sander.3D3 жыл бұрын
@@FlameRat_YehLon Hi. I agree, although I like what Facebook is doing for VR hardware, I really dislike what they're doing business and account-wise. They're creating a weird, data gathering monopoly within the VR market. Didn't know Medium was an Oculus Exclusive, that sucks :/ Kodon might be interesting!
@FlameRat_YehLon3 жыл бұрын
@@Sander.3D at least there are still hopes I guess... I think Medium is being put under the Substance brand so hopefully there will be perpetual version of it in Steam. Absolutely no word has been spoken though, and with GS focusing more on industrial design, the only (more possible) hope might be Kodon, which is said to not be production ready yet.
