Man so glad I found this. Encountered the hardest most baked on paper gasket I've ever seen rebuilding my MB5 engine. Gasket removing chemicals and plastic scrapers did absolutely nothing, razor blades knicked and gouged the surface even when trying to be extra careful. Took me 5 minutes to make an aluminum scraper like you've got and it works like a charm, takes time but theres almost no danger of damage.

Gday Eric - You're a life saver mate - I'm currently in the process of renovating an old Triumph T140 Bonneville and needless to say on a 40 year old bike the gaskets on the ali-casings are all stuck to buggery - Anyway l tried your trick and it worked a bloody treat - Thanks heaps - Mark Opie, AUSTRALIA

Sounds like a great tip. I was actually searching if brass wire brush is safe for the aluminum. From what I can tell brass is just ever slightly harder. Not sure could be wrong but I’m going to go with it. Slow and easy like, at least til it gets hard. Haha. Thanks for the tip,👍

I made one, it does work good. I've had my valve cover face soaking in brake cleaner, and the aluminum scraper is the best. Plastic ones get chowdered up. The aluminum is easy to refresh the blade.
